Y-Point Venture Capital Fund is a ₹250 crore deeptech fund launched on 9 December 2025 by the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), the technology incubator of IIT Bombay. It is India’s first incubator-linked deep technology venture capital fund, registered as a SEBI Category II Alternative Investment Fund, and is designed to carry research-led startups from lab to market.
Thesis
Y-Point exists to close the funding gap for ventures rooted in fundamental research. It writes pre-seed and seed cheques of up to ₹15 crore across 25–30 startups emerging from IIT Bombay and other premier academic and research institutes — betting that India’s research benches can produce globally competitive deeptech companies. The fund’s proposition is translational: pairing capital with SINE’s laboratories, technical mentorship and institutional networks so breakthroughs in science become durable businesses. In IIT Bombay’s own words, the fund is a direct response to the deeptech venture’s pain points — longer gestation, higher capital needs and the need for specialised market access — and is designed to accelerate the journey from lab to market.
Sectors and stages
Pre-seed and seed across artificial intelligence, advanced computing, advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, nuclear technology, space & defence technology, climate & cleantech and life sciences & healthcare.
Institutional track record
The fund sits on two decades of SINE’s incubation work — 500+ startups and 1,000+ innovators supported. The SINE ecosystem has produced well-known names including atomberg, ideaForge, gupshup, Bellatrix Aerospace and Whiterabbit.ai, giving Y-Point a ready pipeline of research-rooted ventures.
Partners and team
The launch was led by IIT Bombay’s institutional leadership: K Radhakrishnan, chairperson of the institute’s Board of Governors, and Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare, with the fund managed through the academia-linked incubator. Individual fund managers have not been publicly named — so Y-Point is best understood as an institutional vehicle anchored in IIT Bombay’s research ecosystem rather than a partner-led franchise.
Programs
As an incubator-linked fund, Y-Point is embedded in SINE’s ecosystem of labs, mentorship and market-access programmes — giving portfolio companies direct access to academic infrastructure that standalone funds cannot offer. Credits and perks have not been publicly disclosed.
Why it matters for founders
If you are a researcher-founder spinning out of an Indian institute, Y-Point is built for you: a fund that understands long gestation cycles, technical risk and technology-readiness ladders, backed by an incubator that has shepherded 500+ startups. Approach it when you have defensible science and need patient capital to industrialise it.
