WEH Ventures is a Mumbai-based seed-stage venture capital firm investing since 2017. Its pitch to founders is simple: early cheques for bold, India-first ideas — the non-obvious ones mainstream investors overlook until they become category-defining. Its portfolio companies have cumulatively gone on to raise $400 Mn, with three-quarters securing follow-on funding from other firms — a hit rate worth studying for any founder raising pre-seed or seed.

Investment thesis

The philosophy centres on backing founders who ask hard questions and take unconventional paths, not polished pitches or pedigree. The firm's website stresses relentless curiosity, unshakeable conviction and a willingness to be wrong in service of being right. Typical bets faced early scepticism — Jar, Masterchow — and the ideology is people-first: passion, insight and execution over institutional credentials, with each cheque treated as a long-term commitment through thick and thin.

Sectors & stages

WEH is sector-agnostic and leads pre-seed and seed rounds. Its portfolio spans fintech, consumer brands, agritech, healthtech, media and enterprise software. With Fund III, the lens is widening from software into the physical economy — advanced manufacturing, agriculture, energy transition, robotics and AI — while keeping faith with consumer, healthcare and fintech.

Fund size & cheque size

The firm has deployed two funds: Fund I (2017) and a flagship Fund II (2020). It has now announced the first close of Fund III, targeting a corpus of ₹250 Cr across 20–25 early-stage Indian startups, with a final close expected by mid-2027. Eight investments from the new fund are already committed. On performance, the firm says Fund I returned 1.4x capital and Fund II tracks above top-quartile at 29% IRR. WEH's typical individual cheque size is not publicly disclosed.

Notable portfolio companies

Since 2017 the firm has backed more than 30 companies, including smallcase — exited in July 2025 with a 38% IRR after investing ₹5 Cr across its rounds — Jar, Masterchow, Pratilipi, Animall, AppsForBharat, Unbox Robotics and Mitigata, which recently closed a $15 Mn Series B with WEH returning as an investor. Fund III names so far include Fragaria, Praan Health and PlayBlue ($2.7 Mn).

Partners & team

The public face of the partnership is general partner Deepak Gupta, a co-founder of the firm. WEH runs offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru with a small, selective team.

Programmes run

WEH runs no public accelerator or structured founder programme. It works with founders deal by deal through its pitch channel, with partners leading diligence personally and staying closely involved with portfolio companies afterwards.

Credits & perks

No cloud credits, software perks or partner offers are publicly advertised. The stated value-add is capital, conviction and continued participation in follow-on rounds rather than a perks catalogue.

How founders can approach them

Founders can pitch directly through the pitch form on wehventures.com, which invites anyone building bold ideas at pre-seed or seed. Warm introductions through portfolio founders or co-investors also travel well. Come prepared with clarity on the India-first problem you are solving, evidence of obsession beyond pedigree, and a crisp explanation of why your idea looks non-obvious today. WEH weighs the person above the CV — passion, insight and execution over prestigious credentials.

Why it matters for founders

WEH Ventures is one of the few Indian seed funds that treats contrarian thinking as an investment criterion rather than a slogan. If your idea sounds strange to mainstream investors but obvious to you, this team has a track record of backing exactly that. Pitch early, lead with conviction and show you have already asked the hard questions.
