Seed-stage venture capital firm WEH Ventures has announced the first close of Fund III, its third fund, with a target corpus of ₹250 crore to back 20–25 early-stage Indian startups. The firm expects to complete the final close by mid-2027.
Who is backing the fund
The first close has attracted capital from family offices, exited founders and senior corporate and technology executives. Early backers include Nordic fund-of-funds Play Capital, family offices Eraya, Twin & Bull Investments and Heritage Investments, as well as founders of companies including Oziva and GS Labs. Senior executives from Thermax, Haleon, Lenovo and PNB MetLife, along with Silicon Valley executives associated with Arlo and Intuitive Surgical, have also participated.
Where the money goes
Fund III will invest across advanced manufacturing, agriculture, energy transition, artificial intelligence and healthcare, alongside consumer and fintech. The fund has already started deploying capital and has committed to eight investments spanning advanced agriculture, robotics, healthcare diagnostics, retail and edtech — including Fragaria (advanced horticulture), Praan Health (fitness services and health products) and PlayBlue (sports retail). One portfolio company has already progressed to a subsequent funding round at a higher valuation.
Track record
WEH Ventures, which began investing in 2017, has backed more than 30 companies, including Smallcase, Jar, Pratilipi, Animall, MasterChow, AppsForBharat, Unbox Robotics and Mitigata. Fund I has returned 1.4x capital, and Fund II has already returned capital with one exit and is tracking above top-quartile performance. "Fund III builds on the strategy we have followed over the years: backing strong founders early when they are solving compelling problems and helping them build enduring businesses," said Deepak Gupta, general partner at WEH Ventures.
Why it matters for founders
A first close means limited partners are still writing cheques for Indian early-stage — WEH Ventures is already deploying and hunting for its next 20–25 seed bets across deeptech, agri, health and fintech. If you are raising a seed round in advanced manufacturing, agriculture, AI or healthcare, this fund should be on your target list.
