Startup funding in India hit the brakes in the third week of October. Venture capital funding for October 17–23, 2026 stood at just $96 million across 15 deals, down sharply from $180 million the previous week. It was the eighth time this year that weekly funding fell below the $100 million mark.

One big deal, then a long tail

The only large-value transaction was Even Healthcare's $50 million raise from Khosla Ventures and Alpha Wave. Every other deal was worth $11 million or less: The Pant Project's ₹109 crore from Mirae Asset Venture Investments, Sorin Investments, Alteria Capital and family offices; CureBay's ₹100 crore from IvyCap Ventures, Trifecta Capital, Alteria Capital and VentureSoul Partners; Chapter Home's ₹63 crore from Bessemer Venture Partners, Stride Ventures, influencer Tanmay Bhat and family offices; TravClan's $5 million from Flipkart, August One and Trifecta Capital; and Hunar.AI's ₹40 crore from Blume Ventures, Hyderabad Angels Fund, Together Fund, Seedstars and AVNM Ventures.

Healthcare, consumer and AI still draw cheques

Investors spread their bets across healthcare, consumer and AI, but the year's biggest challenge held: there have been just 16 deals worth $100 million or more in all of 2026. A lower deal count and the absence of large transactions drove the slide, even as smaller rounds stayed steady.

Why it matters for founders

When the weekly total runs on one or two big rounds, the message for everyone else is the same: milestones and revenue discipline close rounds, hype doesn't. Founders raising now should lead every pitch with unit economics — that's what got funded this week.
