Venture Highway describes its mission simply: "backing bold ideas, from zero to one." Founded in 2015 by Samir Sood (formerly with Google), the seed-stage venture capital firm is advised by Neeraj Arora, former Global Business Head at WhatsApp, who is also the fund's founding anchor limited partner in Silicon Valley — giving the firm a deep India–US corridor from day one.
The firm is sector-agnostic and invests in global technology companies built by Indian founders. Its investment philosophy is explicitly seed-focused: it aims to be the first institutional investor for mission-driven teams attempting to create category-leading companies, partnering with founders from the earliest stages — a paper plan, pre-product or early monetisation are all in scope. As the firm puts it, nothing is too early, including a plan on a paper napkin.
Venture Highway says it writes cheques between $1 million and $3 million, and approaches funding decisions with transparency and speed: it has completed end-to-end diligence in under a week for some portfolio companies and generally takes a call within two to three weeks. Post-investment, the team takes a hands-on approach — market strategy, hiring and fundraising support from day one — and opens up its network of investors, industry experts and advisors across India and the US.
The firm's publicly announced Fund II closed at $78.6 million in January 2020, targeting roughly 30 early-stage companies with an average cheque of around $1 million. Reporting in 2023 noted that Priya Mohan was elevated to managing partner as founder Samir Sood stepped back from day-to-day operations, and that the firm was in the process of raising its third fund — the size of that fund has not been publicly disclosed.
The portfolio reads like a who's-who of Indian category creators: Meesho, ShareChat, Moglix, CRED, FamPay, Drivetrain, OkCredit, Tracxn, Cars24 and Wishfin. Founders speak highly of the relationship: Vidit Aatrey of Meesho calls Venture Highway one of the company's biggest cheerleaders, while Moglix's Rahul Garg describes them as a true partner from the first institutional cheque onward.
The firm also runs a Student Venture Partner programme for students who want to learn investing alongside operators. There is no publicly listed credits or perks bundle, so expect a relationship-driven seed partner rather than a perks platform.
Why it matters for founders
If you are an early-stage founder — even pre-product — building a technology company as an Indian team, Venture Highway is one of the few seed funds that will move fast and lead your first institutional round with $1–3M cheques.
