Vegafin is set to raise up to ₹1,000 crore from Premji Invest, Norwest and Lok Capital, in one of the largest capital commitments to an Indian MSME lending startup this year. The announcement, reported on October 21, 2026, marks the biggest headline in startup funding in India this week.
Vegafin, founded by Bijith Bhaskar — previously in senior roles at ICICI Bank and Premji Invest, and now the company's Managing Director and CEO — plans to build an AI-first lending platform for micro, small and medium enterprises. The platform is designed to improve loan processing, sharpen credit risk assessment and drive operational efficiency, cutting lending costs and speeding up approvals for underserved small businesses.
Alongside the fundraise, Vegafin has signed definitive agreements to acquire a majority stake in Bizloan, an MSME-focused lender with assets under management exceeding ₹235 crore. The deal value is undisclosed. Following the transaction, Bizloan's existing investors Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Mohan Enterprises will exit, while BLinC Invest will retain its investment.
Why startup funding in India is chasing AI-led MSME credit
Investors see Vegafin's access to capital, experienced leadership and distribution capabilities as key edges. Saravanan Nattanmai, Partner for Financial Services at Premji Invest, said backing such platforms could strengthen the small businesses that power India's economy. Premji Invest Vice President Kaustubh Jhaveri pointed to the company's AI-first operating model as a lever for business efficiency. Bhaskar said the goal is a pan-India MSME lender that can manage costs efficiently and assess credit risks accurately.
