Town Hall Ventures is a New York-based venture capital firm founded in 2018 by Andy Slavitt, the former acting administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Its thesis is simple and unusually mission-driven for venture capital: partner with founders solving long-standing healthcare challenges for underserved communities, and prove that serving those populations can generate genuine business returns. As the firm's limited partner John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins puts it, Town Hall's obsession is "turning mission into business alpha" — and he has invested in all four of the firm's funds.

In October 2025 the firm announced it was beginning the investment programme for Fund IV, with approximately $440 million in capital commitments. The fund will back founders and technologists using AI as a core capability to lower costs, improve outcomes and expand access to high-quality care for tens of millions of people underserved by the U.S. healthcare system. With the new fund, Town Hall's total assets under management reached $1.4 billion. The fund series has grown steadily: Fund III raised $350 million in 2022, following $275 million for Fund II and $115 million for Fund I.

Town Hall invests deliberately in fewer opportunities than a typical venture firm, concentrating its time, resources and strategic relationships on companies it believes can be category-defining. Since its founding it has backed 42 companies across launch, venture and growth stages, and it estimates its portfolio collectively reaches one in five Americans.

The firm's focus areas include school-based mental health, care for frail seniors, and rural America — "long ignored places where millions of Americans are in need of better healthcare," in the firm's own words. Its portfolio includes AI-first healthcare companies such as Ambience Healthcare and Qualified Health, alongside care-model innovators like Cityblock Health, which delivers primary care, behavioural health and social services to Medicaid and low-income Medicare patients; Strive Health, the kidney-care company; Thyme Care, a cancer-care navigation platform; Arine; Habitat Health, which Town Hall seeded to provide health and social care for older adults wanting to live independently at home; and Marble Health, a New York-based company expanding access to evidence-based mental health in schools. ImpactAlpha reports that nearly a dozen Town Hall portfolio companies have reached unicorn status.

The firm is led by partners Andy Slavitt, David Whelan, Meera Mani and Anna Fagin. Alongside Fund IV, Town Hall expanded its leadership team: Catherine Olexa-Meadors joined as Head of Partnerships and Growth, and Will Stokes, co-founder of Strive Health, rejoined the firm to lead Hatch, its company-creation studio, which builds new healthcare businesses in collaboration with the Town Hall network. No founder programmes, credits or perks were found publicly advertised by the firm.

Why it matters for founders

For founders building in healthcare — especially AI-enabled care models aimed at underserved populations — Town Hall Ventures offers deep policy expertise, decades of operating experience and trusted access to health systems, payors and partners that accelerate adoption. Its concentrated, company-building approach and the Hatch studio mean it is best suited to founders who want an active partner in redesigning care delivery, not just a cheque.
