Advanced materials and manufacturing technology startup ThinkMetal has raised Rs 27 crore in a funding round led by IAN Alpha Fund, with participation from 3i Partners and existing investors.
Founded by Sabyasachi Ghosh and Arushi Sharma, ThinkMetal is developing indigenous technologies for high-value precision manufacturing, with an initial focus on industrial metal additive manufacturing. Its tech stack combines advanced materials, manufacturing processes and application development to attack long production lead times and dependence on imported technologies.
The startup serves manufacturers in aerospace, defence, space, automotive and electric mobility — sectors where high-value precision metal parts remain overwhelmingly import-dependent. The fresh capital will go into product development, expanding materials R&D capabilities and driving wider adoption among industrial customers.
"This investment is an important step in ThinkMetal's journey from technology development towards commercialisation," said co-founder and CEO Sabyasachi Ghosh. "Our long-term focus remains on building deep indigenous capabilities in materials and manufacturing technologies from India for global markets."
Rajnish Kapur, managing partner at IAN Alpha Fund, backed the indigenous-manufacturing bet: "Strong nations are built on core materials and manufacturing technologies they own. With 17+ IPs already filed, we believe ThinkMetal can redefine how India makes high-value precision metal parts."
Why it matters for founders
Deeptech rounds are being won on IP, not just ideas — ThinkMetal's 17+ filed IPs gave IAN Alpha Fund the conviction to lead Rs 27 crore. If you're building in advanced manufacturing, file early, quantify your import-substitution edge, and sell the nation-building angle alongside the unit economics.
