For founders tracking startup funding in India and globally, the sharpest map of who is actually winning the AI investing race just got an update. Stanford GSB professor Ilya Strebulaev and Blake Jackson have released the firm list for the 2026 Strebulaev–Jackson AI Venture Ranking — the 100 VC firms scored purely on their investments in US-based AI companies, with a cutoff of August 31, 2026. The full list of 100 follows in alphabetical order. Update (22 October 2026): the ranked Top 50 has been released — it now leads this article.
The ranked Top 50 (released 20 October 2026)
Strebulaev and Jackson released the ranked Top 50 AI VC firms on October 20, 2026. Andreessen Horowitz tops the ranking with 22,509 points, about 1.6 times second-placed Lightspeed. The curve is the steepest of any ranking they have released: the score falls to 4,162 by rank 10 and just 470 by rank 50, so the top firm scores roughly 48 times the 50th. The top 3 firms hold 29% of all points earned by the Top 100, the top 10 hold 60% and the Top 50 hold 95%. A handful of companies anchor the table — Anthropic is the single highest-scoring AI investment for 21 of the Top 100 firms, ahead of xAI (8 firms) and Databricks (6). Small funds punch through as well: Parkway Venture Capital ranks 14th on roughly $115M under management, and Sound Ventures 16th on about $1B.

How the Strebulaev–Jackson ranking works
Unlike brand-based league tables, the Strebulaev–Jackson Venture Ranking is fully data-driven: every point a firm earns traces back to a specific investment in a specific company on a specific date, scored on six economically grounded factors, with private valuations discounted to reflect the downside protection built into preferred stock. The methodology is published in the working paper Ranking Venture Investors (Stanford GSB / SSRN, 2026). For this AI edition, only investments in US-based AI companies count — which is why AI-native funds like Radical Ventures, AIX Ventures and Conviction Partners sit alongside megafunds like Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz.
What Indian founders should take from it
One Indian name makes the list: Premji Invest. Roughly half of these 100 firms already have profiles on Nora Fund, and we are adding the rest — including every programme they run — so founders can check theses, cheque sizes and application routes in one place. If you are building an AI startup and plan to raise from US funds, this is the target list the market itself is using; the ranked Top 50 above shows which of these firms the data puts on top.
Why it matters for founders
AI capital is concentrating: the same 100 firms keep appearing behind the biggest US AI rounds. Use this list to build your outreach shortlist, check each firm's Nora Fund profile before you pitch, and use the ranked Top 50 above to see whose AI bets are actually paying off.
