The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) — the Centre's nodal IT promotion body — on Friday, 23 October 2026, inaugurated a new incubation facility at IT Park, Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun, to power Uttarakhand's technology and startup ecosystem. For anyone tracking startup funding in India, it is another signal that the infrastructure race is moving beyond Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

What the Dehradun centre offers startups

The facility is designed to give IT and ITeS companies modern infrastructure, collaborative workspaces and institutional support under one roof. It includes a Centre of Entrepreneurship to help founders turn technical expertise into commercially viable businesses — positioned as a launchpad for young entrepreneurs in the state, with mentoring and business-development support alongside the desks.

Backed by ministers, tied to the semiconductor push

The centre was inaugurated with the participation of Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Commerce & Industry, who called it a vibrant environment for startups and technology enterprises to collaborate and build. Prasada tied the launch to India's wider drive for technological self-reliance, noting that COVID-19-era chip shortages showed why domestic semiconductor and electronics manufacturing capabilities matter.

Uttarakhand IT Secretary Pankaj Pandey described the centre as a major addition to the state's technology ecosystem. The state already counts more than 1,700 recognised startups, and the new facility is meant to strengthen that base, encourage innovation and create opportunities for the state's youth — including a push against youth outmigration from the hill state.

Part of the non-metro push

The Dehradun launch sits inside STPI's nationwide expansion into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, consistent with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's stated goal of nurturing technology startups across non-metro locations. The long-term test will be the familiar one: consistent programming, private-sector partnerships and funding linkages for resident startups.

Why it matters for founders

If you're building outside the metros, government incubation capacity is growing fast — Dehradun now has a Centre of Entrepreneurship with real infrastructure. Apply early for residency and mentorship cohorts; STPI facilities also run grants and seed-linked programmes through MeitY schemes.
