Most venture funds hand you a term sheet and a phone number. Spring Marketing Capital hands you something rarer: a brand team that sits inside your startup and does the marketing with you. Their pitch line says it all — "Marketing Capital, not Venture Capital." This is a fund built by three of India's most decorated brand builders, and it exists for one reason: to help founders build the brands of tomorrow.
The people behind the fund
Spring Marketing Capital was founded in 2019 by a trio with decades of investing and brand-building experience between them. Raja Ganapathy, founding partner, previously served as chief marketing officer at Sequoia Capital India. Arun Iyer was the chairman of advertising giant Lowe Lintas, and Vineet Gupta was the group chief executive of DDB Mudra. When these three call themselves a marketing partner who invests, they are not being metaphorical — brand building is literally their day job.
Fund size and investment stages
The firm launched its first fund in 2019 with a corpus of INR 150 crore, a fund that is now fully deployed across 11 consumer companies. It has since launched its second fund with a reported target corpus of INR 500 crore (about $54 million), focused on growth-stage startups — companies that are post-product-market fit and a few years away from major liquidity events. Alongside that, Spring runs Early Spring, an INR 300 crore early-stage consumer fund anchored by Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), which committed INR 100 crore as anchor and brings its deep expertise in home, personal care and wellness categories to founders. Through Early Spring, the firm writes cheques of INR 5 crore to INR 20 crore per company, from seed to pre-Series A stage.
Notable portfolio companies
Spring's portfolio reads like a who's who of new-age Indian consumer brands. Names on its roster include Purplle, the beauty platform; Wakefit, the sleep and home solutions brand; Mosaic Wellness; Jar, the digital gold savings app; GIVA, the jewellery brand; Agilitas; Leverage Edu; Juicy Chemistry; CAVA Athleisure; Troovy; Hoop; Shree Anandhaas; Cookd and Eat Better Co. Founders of portfolio companies describe Spring as storytellers and co-builders rather than just capital partners — Purplle's Manish Taneja and Wakefit's founders have both publicly spoken about multi-year partnerships spanning brand identity, value proposition creation, branded content and creator collaborations.
What you get beyond money
This is where Spring genuinely differentiates itself. The firm offers a dedicated in-house brand team, new-age creative solutions, creator-led collaborations, help building unique brand narratives and digital product storytelling. Portfolio founders describe Spring deploying functional marketing talent across brand identity, content and collaborations as their needs evolve. For a founder in the consumer space, that is the equivalent of hiring a senior marketing organisation you could never otherwise afford at Series A.
Credits and perks
Spring does not publicly list a credits or perks programme; the firm's stated offering is its marketing expertise and brand team, delivered as part of the partnership rather than as a coupon book.
Why it matters for founders
If you are building a consumer brand in India, capital alone rarely wins the category — storytelling does. Spring Marketing Capital is one of the very few funds that treats brand building as an investable capability, not a service you buy after the raise. For founders who know their product is ready but their brand is not, this is a call worth making.
