Semiconductor startup Sensesemi has secured ₹25 crore ($2.7 million) in a seed funding round led by deeptech-focussed Piper Serica, with participation from LetsVenture Angel Fund, Sun Icon Ventures, MyAsiaVC, Whitepine Investments, Jain Oncor and angel investors, Inc42 reported.

Founded in 2014 by CEO Vijay Muktamath, with Namit Varma as co-founder and head of engineering, Sensesemi designs mixed-signal, power-efficient chips for sensing and edge applications — integrating sensors, signal processing and intelligence directly onto silicon. In parallel, the team is building an analog AI inference processor aimed at radically lowering power consumption in battery-operated and implantable devices, where power, size and cost constraints are brutal. Analog-domain AI inferencing can deliver multi-year battery life without compromising performance, Varma noted.

The fresh capital will be used to tape out and validate the first two test chips in 2026, build a core engineering team for the production-grade version, and run field tests so potential customers can trial real-world applications. The production version of the first-generation chip is targeted for 2027, with industrial IoT, automotive and medical devices — from predictive maintenance and ADAS to cardiac monitoring and smart drug delivery — as the beachhead markets.

The timing is telling. Indian semiconductor startups raised about $50 million in 2025, an 89% jump from $28 million in 2024, per Inc42 data, and the Centre has approved four new semiconductor projects worth ₹4,584 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission. Sensesemi's integrated edge-AI chips are aimed at a global edge-AI chipset market expected to reach 5–7 billion units annually by 2030.

Why it matters for founders

Deeptech patience is finally being priced in. Sensesemi was founded in 2014 and is raising seed capital in 2026 — a timeline that would have been unthinkable in the growth-at-all-costs era. With the India Semiconductor Mission putting real money behind domestic capability, chip startups with genuine engineering depth have a once-in-a-generation window. Build the hard thing; the capital is learning to wait.
