Seedcamp is a London-based seed-stage venture capital fund that has spent nearly two decades being one of the first investors in Europe's most ambitious tech companies. Founded in May 2007 by Saul Klein and Reshma Sohoni, alongside 30 European investors, it calls itself Europe's seed fund, and its portfolio suggests the claim is earned.
Thesis
Seedcamp's thesis has barely changed since inception: back world-class founders attacking large, global markets as early as possible — often pre-product, pre-revenue, or even pre-traction. The firm positions itself as the first believer, offering 'unfiltered advice, unwavering support and unrivalled network' to founders from day one. Reshma Sohoni and Carlos Espinal lead the firm as managing partners.
Sectors and stages
Seedcamp invests primarily at pre-seed and seed, writing first cheques of roughly $1 million and targeting 100 to 120 companies per flagship fund, with follow-on capital reserved through Series B and beyond. It is sector-agnostic within software and technology, with a stated focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, open-source software, healthtech and fintech.
Fund size
In June 2026 Seedcamp announced Seedcamp VII, a $320 million raise that doubles the $180 million it raised for Fund VI in 2023. The capital is split deliberately: $220 million for the early-stage Seedcamp VII vehicle and $100 million for Select, a new growth-stage fund making $3–5 million follow-on cheques at Series B and later. The firm reports $1 billion in assets under management, a portfolio enterprise value above $150 billion, twelve companies worth over $1 billion and three above $10 billion.
Notable portfolio companies
The portfolio now exceeds 550 companies with 12 unicorns. Standout names include:
- Revolut — backed in 2015; Seedcamp's Nik Storonsky-backed bet became one of Europe's defining fintech stories
- Wise — an early stepping stone for the money-transfer giant, now listed in London
- UiPath — backed in 2015 when it was a ten-person team in Romania; now NYSE-listed
- Synthesia — the AI video unicorn Seedcamp supported when 'everyone else thought we were crazy'
- Pleo, Sorare, 9fin, Fluidstack, Dust, Primer and wefox
Key people
Reshma Sohoni (co-founder and managing partner) and Carlos Espinal (managing partner, joined 2010) lead the firm. Both are fixtures of the European ecosystem: Sohoni co-founded the firm, and Espinal has been part of its investment team for over a decade.
Programmes and perks
Seedcamp began life with an accelerator-style programme — Seedcamp Week events and a mentoring tour that connected early batches with founders and investors across Europe and the US. Today it operates as a traditional fund rather than a structured accelerator, and it does not publish a startup credits or perks programme. Its 'programme' is the Seedcamp Nation network itself: more than 550 founders, a deep bench of operator mentors and an LP base that includes many of its own successful alumni.
Why it matters for founders
If you are a pre-seed founder in Europe with a large-market software idea, Seedcamp is one of the most credentialed first-cheque investors you can approach — but it is also one of the most selective, backing barely 100 companies per fund out of thousands of applications. The new $320 million Fund VII and the US expansion into New York and Miami also make it increasingly relevant for European founders planning a transatlantic expansion. With roughly 100 to 120 first cheques per fund, competition for a Seedcamp term sheet is intense — but the signal it sends to follow-on investors is one of the strongest in Europe.
