Seaya Ventures is one of Europe's most successful southern-European venture capital firms. Based in Madrid and founded in 2013 by Beatriz González, who serves as Founder and Managing Partner, the firm has built its reputation on spotting future category leaders early — most famously by becoming the first financial investor in Cabify and Glovo, Spain's first two unicorns.

Investment thesis and focus

Seaya invests in early and growth-stage internet and technology-enabled businesses across Europe and Latin America. The firm deliberately backs mission-driven founders pursuing long-term, sustainable growth, arguing that such companies are more resilient, attract better talent and ultimately deliver stronger financial returns. It typically leads Series A and Series B rounds and reserves capital for follow-on rounds, investing up to €20 million per company across several rounds.

Sector-wise, the firm has concentrated on fintech, insurtech, edtech, healthtech and mobility, with its third fund also targeting deep-tech companies. Geographically, its roots are in Spain and southern Europe, but it has expanded its footprint across Europe and into Latin America, with a team split between Madrid and Mexico.

Funds

Seaya has raised three core early-stage funds: Seaya I at €57 million (2013), Seaya II at €103 million (2017) and Seaya III at €165 million, which closed in December 2021 after exceeding its original €125 million target. At that point the firm had more than doubled its assets under management to around €350 million. Its international investor base combines institutional investors and family offices, mostly returning investors from previous funds.

Notable portfolio companies

  • Cabify — the Spanish ride-hailing platform, where Seaya was the first financial investor
  • Glovo — the delivery unicorn, likewise first backed by Seaya as a financial investor
  • Wallbox — smart electric-vehicle charging hardware (NYSE: WBX)
  • Clarity AI — sustainability analytics and ESG software
  • Savana — clinical artificial intelligence and electronic health records
  • CrowdFarming and RatedPower — agrifood and energy-tech platforms
  • Clicars, Spotahome, Toq.io and Sensei — automotive, property-tech, banking-as-a-service and retail tech

Partnerships and programmes

Seaya has formalised a co-investment and growth partnership with Cathay Innovation, the global multistage venture fund, aimed at helping portfolio companies expand across Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America. The firm does not run a dedicated accelerator or startup-credits programme of its own; support comes through its operating network of founders, corporates and investors rather than a structured scheme.

Why it matters for founders

If you are building a tech company in southern Europe or Latin America at Series A or B stage, Seaya is one of the few funds with a proven record of turning regional startups into global leaders — as Cabify and Glovo show. Expect a mission-driven lens, a hands-on approach to international expansion, and an investor base that has backed the firm fund after fund.
