SBI Ventures Limited — formerly SBICAP Ventures Limited — is the alternative asset management company of the SBI Group, and SBI Ventures funding flows through some of India's largest impact and housing funds rather than a conventional startup VC book. Incorporated in 2005, the AMC manages around Rs 30,000 crore per its official homepage (a careers page cites about Rs 33,000 crore across six funds).
SBI Ventures funding: mandate and funds
The official thesis is to manage impact-focused funds with an ESG emphasis and "a mission to sustainably grow the SME ecosystem in India."
The funds in the stable: Neev Fund I, conceptualised and launched in 2015 by PM Narendra Modi and then-UK PM David Cameron, a Category-I infrastructure AIF backed by SBI, SIDBI and UK DFID (now FCDO), reported at Rs 504 crore; Neev Fund II (SVL SME Fund), the successor equity and quasi-equity fund for climate and SDG-focused SMEs, targeting around €100 million (the European Investment Bank committed €25 million), with combined Neev I+II of INR 1,500 crore per the official careers page; SWAMIH Investment Fund I, the government's Rs 25,000-crore special window for completing stalled affordable and mid-income housing projects, which had raised a corpus of Rs 15,531 crore by early 2026; and a fund-of-funds platform spanning the SRI Fund (Self Reliant India Fund for MSMEs, where SBI Ventures was selected as investment manager through competitive bidding and registered with SEBI in September 2021), the UKIDCF and the TDC Fund (with the Ministry of External Affairs).
Sectors, stages and notable portfolio
Neev I's mandate covers agriculture supply chains, renewable energy (solar, biomass, wind, hydro), healthcare, education, clean technology and waste management; Neev I+II together add dairy, green hydrogen, pollution control, sustainable agriculture and water & sanitation. The official Neev Fund I portfolio lists United Sustainable Energy India, Milk Mantra Dairy, Crystal Logistic (Cool Chain), SunSource Energy (exited 2021), Leap India, Rahi Care, Blue Planet Environmental Solutions and Punjab Renewable Energy Systems, plus an IAN Fund position covering 72 investments. Claimed impact: 22,000+ jobs created, aiming to impact 4M+ lives. The company is led by Managing Director & CEO Prem Prabhakar (in office since 4 June 2024).
A word of honest framing
SBI Ventures is a fund manager, not a startup-facing VC: Neev backs infrastructure and climate SMEs, SWAMIH funds developers of stalled housing projects, and the fund-of-funds platforms commit to daughter AIFs. Typical direct-investment cheque sizes are not publicly disclosed on the official site. If you run an early-stage consumer or SaaS startup, this is probably not your lane — but if you are building in climate, agri-logistics, clean energy or affordable housing, its funds are among the largest dedicated pools of patient capital in the country.
How to apply for funding
There is no public startup application form — SBI Ventures invests through its managed funds. The official contact route is [email protected], phone +91 22 69112800, Marathon Futurex, Lower Parel, Mumbai. How to get funding from SBI Ventures, realistically: climate or agri SMEs should write to that inbox mapping the business to the Neev mandate; fund managers approach via the SRI Fund or UKIDCF route. Expect an institutional process.
Why it matters for founders
SBI Ventures controls Rs 30,000 crore-plus of patient, impact-oriented capital across Neev, SWAMIH and MSME fund-of-funds — for climate, agri and infrastructure SMEs, it writes the long-horizon cheques commercial VCs rarely touch.
