Salesforce Ventures is the global investment arm of Salesforce, dedicated exclusively to enterprise technology. It has invested more than $7 billion across over 700 enterprise software companies from seed to growth, recording more than 190 M&A exits and 35 IPOs. Its evergreen model means it invests off the balance sheet with patient, long-horizon capital. In India it is best known for one landmark bet: leading the $15 million round in Hyderabad HR-tech startup Darwinbox, Salesforce's maiden India investment.
Investment thesis
Salesforce Ventures invests only in enterprise software — it explicitly does not do consumer software or hardware. Its core themes are Generative AI, Data & Infrastructure, Security, and Vertical & Horizontal Apps, plus "New Frontiers" such as energy and space. The fund's pitch to founders is patient capital plus privileged access: portfolio companies get introductions across Salesforce's Fortune 500 customer base and guidance from its Office of Ethical and Humane Use on building trusted AI.
Funds, stages and cheque sizes
As an evergreen corporate investor, Salesforce Ventures has no fixed fund size; it invests at all stages, from cheques under $5 million at seed to $50 million-plus at growth, per its own FAQ. Its flagship commitment is a $1 billion AI fund, of which it had deployed over $850 million across 35 AI-first companies with combined valuations above $270 billion — backing names like Anthropic, Cohere, ElevenLabs, Together AI, Runway, Mistral AI and Hugging Face.
Notable portfolio
Beyond the AI fund names, the portfolio spans the enterprise stack; Protect AI was acquired by Palo Alto Networks. The India story is Darwinbox: founded in 2016 by Chaitanya Peddi, Jayant Paleti and Rohit Chennamaneni, the HR-tech platform took Salesforce Ventures' $15 million Series C in 2021 — the fund's first Indian investment and its second in Asia — then raised a $72 million Series D led by Technology Crossover Ventures in 2022 at a valuation above $1 billion, becoming a unicorn. In 2026 the company launched Darwinbox Cortex, an AI-native HCM platform, and Teachers' Venture Growth doubled down on its holding.
People
Paul Drews is managing partner and John Somorjai is president of Salesforce Ventures. Alex Kayyal, partner and head of international, led the Darwinbox relationship and has described the firm as backing "Asia's leading enterprises" through its international programme.
Programmes / credits and perks
The firm's founder programme centres on enterprise distribution: access to Salesforce's customer and partner ecosystem, co-selling opportunities, and trust-and-safety guidance for AI products. It does not publicise startup cloud-credits or perks programmes as a standalone offering.
How to engage
Salesforce Ventures is the CVC to pitch if you sell software to enterprises — especially AI infrastructure, data, security or vertical SaaS with global ambitions. The Darwinbox playbook shows what the firm values: a product that can ride Salesforce's distribution into Southeast Asia, the Middle East and beyond. Enterprise traction and a credible path to the Fortune 500 matter more than consumer-style growth metrics.
Why it matters for founders
For Indian SaaS founders, Salesforce Ventures is the most relevant corporate VC on the planet: it wrote its first India cheque into Darwinbox and stayed for the unicorn round. If your enterprise product can plug into the Salesforce ecosystem, this is a strategic investor that brings customers, not just capital.
