Rebright Partners calls itself "the gateway between Japan, ASEAN and India" — and for Indian founders, that positioning is the whole pitch. The Tokyo- and Singapore-based early-stage venture capital firm invests in seed to early-stage technology startups across Asia, with a network that stretches from Japanese corporates to Southeast Asian markets to India.
The firm is led by General Partner Takeshi Ebihara, who founded Rebright to back internet and mobile startups across the region, and its India operations have been led by Brij Bhasin, formerly of startup accelerator GSF. Rebright's backing comes from publicly listed Japanese internet companies and prominent individual angel investors — a capital base that doubles as a partnership network for portfolio companies looking east. The firm's debut fund was about $10 million, and it typically writes cheques between $100,000 and $1 million; the size of its current fund is not publicly disclosed.
The investment focus is early-stage tech with regional scale potential: consumer internet, mobile apps, e-commerce and m-commerce, digital media, and increasingly healthcare, SaaS and supply chain. The firm's own site showcases an India-heavy portfolio: Medibuddy, the online doctor-consultation platform; ClaimBuddy, the hospital claims-management platform; Aquaconnect, the AI-powered aquaculture platform; Virohan, the paramedic vocational-training edtech; ClickPost, the logistics intelligence platform; Numocity, the EV-charging platform acquired by ABB e-Mobility; and Inshorts, the 60-word news app. Earlier India bets included Tookitaki, the data-intelligence startup, and News in Shorts, alongside regional names like Medikabazaar, LetsTransport, Niro and Eggoz.
For founders, Rebright's differentiated value is cross-border leverage: a Tokyo base with Japanese corporate relationships, a Singapore hub for Southeast Asia, and an active India presence. The firm's own description frames its network across South-East Asia, India and Japan as "a springboard for the startups that are keen to expand to these regions and build partnerships with the biggest tech companies there." The second fund was raised with India as its primary focus, signalling where the firm sees its next decade of returns.
Why it matters for founders
If you are building a seed-stage tech startup with ambitions beyond India — especially into Southeast Asia or Japan — Rebright is one of the few early-stage investors whose network is the product. Come with a product that can travel across Asian markets, and treat the firm's Japanese corporate LPs as a distribution channel, not just a funding source.
