Digital payments major PhonePe on October 19, 2026 rebranded its investing and trading platform Share.Market as PhonePe Invest, folding wealth into the same brand that powers its payments, lending and insurance products. The move is a bid to carry everyday savers — not just active traders — into equities, a notable platform play in startup funding in India this week.
Portfolio Optimiser anchors the relaunch
Alongside the rebrand, PhonePe launched Portfolio Optimiser, a proprietary portfolio-intelligence tool that lets users build, review and optimise portfolios. It gives a consolidated view of portfolio health and diversification across all demat accounts, offers research-backed hold, monitor or sell ratings, and flags underperforming assets and sector-concentration risks for one-click rebalancing. Founder and CPTO Rahul Chari told PTI the rebrand reflects a shift from serving active investors and traders — a small segment — to savers who began with small, regular investments and may now want to enter equity markets.
PhonePe is betting on the sachet model of financial services: daily SIPs starting at ₹10 and lump-sum mutual fund investments from ₹100. The company says existing users' investments, account continuity, brokerage structures, fee plans and annual maintenance charges remain unchanged, and the service continues to operate through PhonePe Wealth Broking Private Limited. Stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, IPOs, futures and options and WealthBaskets sit on one platform, and the company is exploring voice-enabled onboarding and AI-personalised portfolio conversations next.
Why it matters for founders
PhonePe Invest shows how India's biggest fintech distribution machines are attacking wealth from the savings side, not the trading side. The ₹10-daily-SIP framing targets the same mass-affluent segment every wealth-tech startup chases — but with a distribution moat built on hundreds of millions of payments users. For wealth-tech founders, the bar just moved: personalisation and trust, not access, are now the differentiator.
