Who Peak Sustainability Ventures is

Peak Sustainability Ventures funding is behind some of India's most serious climate-tech bets. Founded in 2019 and based in Mumbai, Peak Sustainability Ventures is India's deep-tech climate VC — an early-stage firm backing founders whose technologies can accelerate India and Asia's climate transition. It is raising about $150 million for its inaugural fund, after years building expertise across 40+ climate sub-sectors before most Indian investors took the space seriously. If your startup turns an emissions problem into a scalable business, Peak is one of the first calls to make.

Thesis

Peak's thesis is four systems, one transition: New Energy, Food Systems, Water and Climate. The firm backs innovative, scalable climate technologies that can deliver strong financial returns alongside large-scale climate impact, thinking in systems rather than silos. It invests early in purpose-driven entrepreneurs and stays actively involved, believing that being early and hands-on lets it meaningfully influence outcomes.

Sectors & stages

Peak invests at the early stage across new energy (alternative fuels, energy storage, industrial decarbonisation, hydrogen), food systems (regenerative agriculture, waste-to-value, climate-smart farming), water (treatment, desalination, efficiency) and climate (built environment, carbon markets, CCUS, plastics and alternative materials). It also launches large-scale joint ventures with corporate partners where early-stage bets alone cannot suffice.

Fund size & cheque size

Peak Sustainability Ventures is raising up to $150 million for its inaugural Peak Sustainable Venture Fund I. The firm publishes no formal cheque-size range on its website; its sweet spot is early-stage climate technology in India and Asia, where it typically leads or co-leads.

Notable portfolio

Peak co-led the strategic investment in Norway's Hydrogen Mem-Tech — palladium-membrane technology for high-purity hydrogen — taking a 10.5% stake, with Samir Shah joining the board. Other names include Indra Water, HT Materials Science, Brisil (pre-Series A led by Peak, August 2026), SustLabs and Proeon. Peak was an early investor in ION Energy, whose hardware unit was acquired by Endurance Technologies, and is developing bio-CNG plants with VA Tech Wabag, starting in Ghaziabad.

Partners / team

The firm is led by Managing Partner Samir Shah — former Deutsche Bank, Salomon Brothers and Goldman Sachs principal investor — alongside Sanjay Nayar, the former KKR India CEO, with Aakash Shah as Partner. Advisors include Erik Solheim (former UNEP head) and Pavan Sukhdev. Peak is an official Earthshot Prize nominator and an IFC SheWins Climate investor.

Programs & perks

Peak's value-add includes market access, business and legal training, global fundraising support, mentorship, client introductions and sustainability-narrative building, plus post-investment ESG monitoring. Its corporate joint-venture model (as with Wabag) can give startups an industrial-scale deployment channel.

How to apply for funding from Peak Sustainability Ventures

Peak publishes contact details on its website and public profiles — founders can write in with a pitch deck. Lead with a technology-led solution in its four focus areas, proof of concept, and a credible path to scale and measurable climate impact. Warm introductions through the climate ecosystem never hurt.

Why it matters for founders

A $150 million inaugural fund, a Mumbai team led by Samir Shah and Sanjay Nayar, and a portfolio spanning hydrogen, water and industrial decarbonisation — Peak Sustainability Ventures is the specialist to pitch if your startup makes the climate transition investable.
