NuSynth Technologies, a Mysore-based startup focused on chemical process innovation, has raised Rs 36.5 crore (about $4 million) in a funding round co-led by Avaana Capital and Shastra VC, as it looks to develop more cost-efficient and sustainable ways to manufacture complex chemicals.
The company is building a platform to find simpler, cheaper and more efficient routes to make chemicals — assessing raw materials, reaction pathways and process economics. It uses predictive synthesis models alongside an AI engine that analyses experimental data to improve future research cycles, with an initial focus on pharmaceuticals and electronic chemicals.
NuSynth was founded by Poorvank Purohit, previously Managing Director and CEO of Solara Active Pharma Sciences, alongside Dr Ramesha A R, a postdoctoral researcher at the US National Institutes of Health. The founding team also includes Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj, professionals with experience from Zetwerk, Mstack, Ola, JPMorgan, BlackBuck and SUN Mobility.
The new capital will go into enhancing R&D and technological capabilities, creating an initial portfolio of proprietary chemical processes, bolstering scale-up capacities and expanding the operational team.
Why it matters for founders
A Rs 36.5 crore seed for chemtech signals that patient capital now backs hard science, not just software. Deep-domain founding teams — a former pharma CEO plus an NIH postdoc — command large seed cheques because they de-risk the science before the pitch. Proprietary process IP is the new moat.
