The firm
NFX is a seed-stage venture capital firm founded in 2015 by serial entrepreneurs James Currier, Pete Flint and Gigi Levy-Weiss. The trio had previously founded and exited ten companies worth more than a combined $10 billion, then set out to build a venture firm around the pattern they kept seeing in their biggest wins. Since then, NFX has raised $1.5 billion across five funds and additional special-purpose vehicles, including NFX Fund III, a $450 million fund dedicated solely to pre-seed and seed-stage startups — one of the largest funds of its kind. It is based in San Francisco with an office in Herzliya, Israel, and invests across the United States, Israel, Latin America and Europe.
Thesis and sweet spot
The name says it all: NFX stands for network effects. The firm's core thesis is that network effects account for around 70% of the value creation in tech, and it has built an entire practice around helping early-stage startups design and strengthen them. NFX is not a multi-stage firm. Pre-seed and seed is its only business: it typically invests between $500K and $5M, leads or co-leads rounds, and is the first institutional investor in the vast majority of the companies it backs. Its sweet-spot sectors are marketplaces, fintech, games, crypto, techbio and proptech.
Notable portfolio
NFX says it has seeded 42 companies that went on to reach unicorn status. The names include DoorDash, Lyft, Patreon, Poshmark, Trulia, Playtika, SimilarWeb and Mammoth Biosciences. Its Israel-linked portfolio is deep too, featuring Fireblocks, Papaya Global, Moon Active, Plarium and Global-e.
People
The managing partners are James Currier, Pete Flint and Gigi Levy-Weiss, joined by Omri Drory who runs NFX Bio and Morgan Beller who leads crypto investing. In Israel, the team includes partners Sarai Bronfeld and Omri Amirav-Drory alongside Levy-Weiss. Notably, in September 2026 the firm announced that once NFX Fund IV (a $325 million fund) is fully deployed through 2027, the partners will continue investing under the NFX name with their own capital, writing cheques of $100,000 to $3 million across any stage or sector.
Programs, credits and perks
NFX runs FAST, an investment marathon offering up to $6 million per company with a decision committed within one week and funds transferred on an accelerated timeline. The third FAST marathon since October 2023 ran earlier this year, focused on Israeli AI startups. The firm also operates the NFX Guild, a founder community with insider playbooks and masterclasses on recruiting, fundraising and go-to-market, and publishes widely used free founder software for networking and fundraising used by hundreds of thousands of founders.
Why it matters for founders
If your product gets more valuable as more people use it, NFX speaks your language fluently. It leads at seed, decides fast through FAST, and brings an unmatched body of network-effects knowledge plus a founder community to help you turn early traction into a durable moat.
