MathWorks and MapmyIndia (Mappls) have announced a collaboration to help automotive engineers develop and validate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for Indian road conditions.
The integration combines MapmyIndia's high-definition maps with MATLAB, Simulink and RoadRunner, letting engineers create digital twins of Indian roads and simulate complex traffic scenarios. Indian roads present unique challenges — heterogeneous traffic, variable lane behaviour, changing infrastructure, potholes, speed breakers and faded markings — and MapmyIndia's HD maps provide lane-level geometry, traffic controls and detailed local road attributes.
The companies say the integration will enable earlier virtual validation of ADAS systems, reducing reliance on costly physical testing and accelerating development of solutions designed specifically for India.
For Indian automakers and their software suppliers, India-specific simulation infrastructure is the missing middle layer between global ADAS stacks and Indian roads — and this collaboration is building exactly that.
Why it matters for founders
The MathWorks–MapmyIndia tie-up shows where mobility-tech value is concentrating: not in the vehicle, but in the simulation and mapping layers that make autonomy work on Indian roads. Founders in automotive software should build for India-specific edge cases first — potholes and faded markings are the moat.
