K Fund is a Madrid-based venture capital firm founded in 2016 by Iñaki Arrola, grown into a multi-stage, multi-product family of funds supporting entrepreneurs across Southern Europe and Latin America. With more than €500 million in assets under management, it is one of the anchor investors of the Spanish ecosystem — investing from pre-seed to Series B with cheques ranging from €100,000 to €15 million.
The thesis
K Fund backs differentiated, technology-based products and services, mostly in Southern Europe and Latin America, keeping terms "simple and easy to understand." Its strategy emphasises concentrated bets, adequate founder ambition and regional adaptation: in a market with fewer large-scale exits, the firm diversifies across a family of vehicles rather than a single fund, and supports founders with transparent communication and, where appropriate, partial secondary sales for founder security. It describes itself as the only fund manager in its region able to support projects from pre-seed to Series A and beyond within one family of funds.
Funds and firepower
The firm's core early-stage franchise has scaled steadily since K Fund I in 2016. Its sixth fund, K3, has secured commitments exceeding €70 million to back AI, data and blockchain-enabled companies. Alongside the core funds, K Fund manages Leadwind, the growth-stage vehicle launched with Telefónica, which completed a €140 million first close in April 2022 targeting a €250 million cap — potentially the largest growth fund in Southern Europe. Leadwind writes cheques starting at €5 million into deeptech scaleups across Southern Europe and Latin America, backed by Telefónica, BBVA, GoHub, SATEC and institutional investors including AXIS-ICO. The firm also runs pre-seed vehicles including K Founders Preseed and K Founders Preseed II, both registered with Spain's CNMV.
Notable portfolio
K Fund's portfolio reads as a who's-who of Spanish tech. Featured investments include HR software leader Factorial, travel platform Exoticca, real-estate crowdfunding platform Urbanitae, meeting-recording platform TL;DV, voice-modulation company Voicemod, hospitality platform Amenitiz, finance-automation company Abacum, pet-insurance platform Barkibu and robotics breakout Theker — whose €18 million seed round was the largest ever recorded in Spain. Exits and outcomes include Arengu (acquired by Okta), Frontity (acquired by Automattic), Billin (TeamSystems), Lucera (MásMóvil), Wide Eyes (Stylitics) and Transparent (OTA Insights).
Team and approach
Founded by serial entrepreneur Iñaki Arrola, the firm's partners include Miguel Arias, a driving force behind the Leadwind strategy. The firm's public positioning stresses founder alignment — treating ambition as a screening criterion and communication as a core operating value — and it maintains an unusually transparent public portfolio, including a "We Tried" list of companies that did not work out.
What to know before pitching
K Fund is the natural first call for a technology startup based in Spain, Portugal or Latin America — few firms offer a credible path from a €100,000 pre-seed cheque to €5 million-plus growth capital under one roof. Founders should demonstrate genuine ambition to build beyond their home market, since the firm's model assumes companies will scale across Southern Europe and into Latam or beyond.
Why it matters for founders
K Fund offers something rare in Southern Europe: a full-stack capital partner, from first cheque to growth round, with deep roots in the Spanish ecosystem and a bridge into Latin America. If you are building a tech company in Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon or Latam, it should be on every fundraising list.
