Startup funding in India closed one of its biggest chapters of the year on 28 October 2026, when Jio Platforms made its stock-market debut. Shares of the Reliance Industries-backed digital services company listed at Rs 1,358 on both the BSE and the NSE, a 21.36% premium over the issue price of Rs 1,119.
India's largest IPO finds its market value
The listing valued Jio Platforms at roughly Rs 12.5 lakh crore, making it India's second-most valuable listed company, behind Reliance Industries. The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 1,374.50 during the session, according to YourStory's market roundup.
The debut capped India's largest-ever public issue. The Rs 30,213 crore IPO was subscribed 22.19 times, with total demand across the public issue and the anchor placement crossing Rs 7.4 lakh crore and applications approaching 1.39 crore — reported as a world record for a public issue. The offer, entirely a fresh issue of 27 crore shares, opened on 21 October and closed on 23 October, and was fully subscribed within 100 minutes on its opening day.
Ahead of the issue, Jio Platforms raised about Rs 8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors on 19 October, allotting shares at Rs 1,119, the upper end of the price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119.
What the debut signals
At the listing ceremony at the NSE, Jio Platforms managing director Akash Ambani thanked institutional and retail investors, calling the response a blockbuster success. The company, which serves more than 540 million customers across its digital platforms, said its priorities would remain expanding digital access and building long-term shareholder value.
For the wider ecosystem, the listing is a landmark: a homegrown digital platform built over a decade has now been priced by public markets at a scale few Indian technology companies have reached. It also sets a reference point for the next wave of large Indian technology listings, showing that domestic and global investors will back scale, distribution and a clear digital story at record size.
Why it matters for founders
A blockbuster listing like Jio Platforms' shows founders and investors what scale is worth in public markets. Build distribution first, and the market will price it — but only after years of patient execution, not a single funding round.
