Most investors who want a piece of India's deep-tech story fly in, write a cheque, and fly out. JC Capital is doing something different: it is wiring India's manufacturing startups directly into the Taiwanese semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. Founded in 2019 by Jim Chen — who carries more than two decades of venture capital and private equity experience — the Taiwan-based venture capital firm has built one of the deepest operator benches in Asian deep tech, with a team drawn from semiconductor majors including Lite-On, Hermes-Epitek and Delta Electronics.

Since inception, JC Capital has invested over ₹1,000 crore across 30 companies in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and clean technology. Its investor base is unusually industrial: more than 80% of its investors are corporate limited partners, which means portfolio companies get direct access to technology partners, supply chains and international markets across the US, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia — not just money.

The firm's biggest India bet so far arrived in September 2026. JC Capital partnered with Asiana Fund, the investment platform of the Dani Family Office (co-promoters of Asian Paints), to launch the Asiana-JCC Advanced Manufacturing & Innovation Fund — a ₹1,000 crore fund with a ₹600 crore base corpus and a ₹400 crore greenshoe option. The fund targets 12 to 15 growth-stage, IP-led companies, primarily at the Series A and Series B stages, with capital set aside for follow-on investments.

The thesis is squarely on India's manufacturing moment: advanced manufacturing and robotics, semiconductors and computing, materials and sustainability, and aerospace and defence. Its early deal pipeline includes startups working on compound semiconductors, motion-control systems for EVs and robotics, secure silicon, smart grids, robotic vision and optoelectronics — areas where Taiwan's three decades of ecosystem-building can shorten a startup's learning curve by years.

Beyond capital, the fund is structured to facilitate technology and know-how transfer, connect companies with global supply chains and strategic partners, and support manufacturing scale-up and international expansion. Asiana brings India-focused industrial experience — it has deployed more than ₹700 crore across 11 private investments since 2017 — while JC Capital opens the door to Taiwan's ecosystem.

Founders building hardware-adjacent businesses should note the senior team: besides Chen, the firm lists managing partner Chang Chi Hsu with four decades in semiconductors and energy, venture partner Dr. Nicky Lu, chairman of the AI-on-Chip Taiwan Alliance, and Sr. Partner Rahul Agarwal, a former Invest India vice-president who led the firm's India strategy.

Why it matters for founders

If you are building an IP-led company in semiconductors, robotics, materials or defence tech and your Series A needs more than money — supplier introductions, manufacturing partnerships, or a bridge to Taiwan's ecosystem — JC Capital is one of the few funds engineered to deliver exactly that. This is patient, industrial capital that treats technology transfer as part of the deal.
