January Capital runs on a simple idea: unparalleled ambition requires unconstrained capital. The Singapore-based private markets investment firm partners with exceptional technology companies across the Asia-Pacific region, offering flexible capital solutions through two strategies — Venture Capital and Growth Credit.

Its venture capital strategy is dedicated to supporting exceptional founders from day one, using proprietary data-driven tooling and areas of conviction to target being a startup's first institutional investor. Its growth credit strategy provides less-dilutive credit financing to leading growth-stage technology firms in the region — bespoke, flexible solutions designed to accelerate growth without the dilution of an equity round.

Data is the firm's edge. January Capital built First Signal, a proprietary data platform that provides insights to identify early-stage investment opportunities, and publishes a bi-annual State of the Technology Ecosystem report with its affiliated company Alternatives.pe, democratising private-market data for the ecosystem. The firm also runs THE FIRST, a content and founder programme designed to guide the next generation of founders.

The firm was founded by Benjamin Dunphy, Jason Edwards and Jonathan Hodson, and now holds over US$500 million in assets under management, with a portfolio of more than 60 companies collectively valued at over US$12.5 billion and more than 75 transactions completed over five years. Dunphy, the founding partner, was the only Australian named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 venture capital list in 2019; he previously worked at advisory firm Seabury Group in New York and served as Vice President of Operations at Lazada in Southeast Asia.

Verified portfolio companies include ShopBack, aCommerce, Go1, MarQo, Fluent Commerce, Tazapay, Netbank, Atato, Omni HR, Confident AI and Standard Metrics. In a sign of institutional confidence, Scarcity Partners acquired a 20% interest in January Capital to support its growth across the region.

January Capital is also building a venture-debt capability: founder Benjamin Dunphy describes the region’s first dedicated, diversified fund providing senior, secured loans to leading growth-stage technology companies, managed by a specialist venture-credit team. The firm additionally highlights impact and ESG work under a “capital that catalyzes the potential of our region” programme.

No public startup credits scheme was found; the firm's founder value-add centres on its data platform, flexible capital structures and ecosystem content.

Why it matters for founders

January Capital is worth knowing for two reasons: early-stage founders get a data-obsessed first institutional investor, and growth-stage founders get a rare alternative to dilution through its growth-credit arm. If you are scaling an Asia-Pacific tech company and want flexible capital rather than a one-size-fits-all equity round, start a conversation.
