India's apex VC body is going grassroots. The Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) announced on October 8, 2026 a collaboration with Headstart Network Foundation: IVCA will co-host Bharat Pitchathon 2026 and launch "IVCA Bharat DeepTech Startups: National Pulse" — a national, founder-led intelligence initiative capturing the experiences, challenges and priorities of DeepTech founders.
The initiative comes as Indian DeepTech enters a scale phase across semiconductors, AI, space, defence, biotech, quantum and clean energy. IVCA's Bharat DeepTech Report 2026 mapped $11.4 billion in cumulative venture funding across 957 deals between 2015 and 2026 YTD, with 2025 the peak year at $2.96 billion. National Pulse adds a founder-led lens, deliberately reaching Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and emerging clusters that remain underrepresented in ecosystem data.
Headstart's grassroots network across 30+ cities will drive founder outreach; IVCA anchors the research and industry engagement. Founder inputs will be gathered alongside the Pitchathon, examining who is building DeepTech, where innovation is emerging, and where founders still hit barriers on capital, infrastructure, customers, talent and policy.
The findings feed the first IVCA Bharat DeepTech Startups: National Pulse Report, launching at the Bharat DeepTech Summit 2027. "India's DeepTech opportunity will be built not only in our largest startup hubs, but increasingly across the hinterlands," said Rajat Tandon, President, IVCA.
Why it matters for founders
This is a pipeline-opening moment: IVCA's investor network is explicitly being brought closer to non-metro DeepTech founders through the Pitchathon, and National Pulse turns founder pain points into a policy-grade evidence base. If you're building DeepTech outside Bengaluru or Mumbai, show up — the capital map is being redrawn, and this is where your voice lands on it.
