Vsquared Ventures is a Munich-based venture capital firm that does only one thing: early-stage deep tech. Founded in 2020 by a team that had already been investing together in deep tech since 2016, it backs European founders building category-defining companies from the very beginning — before consensus, before scale, before the headlines, in its own words.
Thesis: frontier taste, industrial judgement
Vsquared's thesis is that industrial eras begin with scientific breakthroughs the world does not yet understand, and that determined execution turns those breakthroughs into companies the world will depend on for generations. It invests around generational growth themes: enduring shifts that reshape industries before the wider market names them. It also carries a European sovereignty argument: backing critical technologies so Europe builds its own champions.
Sectors, stages and fund size
The firm invests from pre-seed to Series A across artificial intelligence, quantum computing, new space, robotics and manufacturing, new materials, energy transition, new computing and sensing, and tech-bio, plus enterprise software. It launched a €165 million fund in 2022, then closed a €214 million fund in 2024, backed by Novo Holdings, the NATO Innovation Fund, the European Investment Fund and KfW Capital. It manages around €450 million in total. For the 2024 fund it planned to back about 25 companies with cheques between €500,000 and €5 million, reserving two-thirds of the fund for follow-on investments.
Notable portfolio companies
Vsquared's portfolio is a tour of European deep tech. It includes small-satellite launch company Isar Aerospace, quantum computing company IQM, space transportation company The Exploration Company, Earth-observation company constellr, robotics company NEURA Robotics, battery-recycling company Cylib, encryption company Zama, fusion company Marvel Fusion and quantum companies Alice&Bob and Planqc. Recent additions include StandardX, backed in a September 2026 seed round, and Ground A.
Partners and leads
The firm was founded by Thomas Oehl, who serves as founder and managing partner, together with founding partners Herbert Mangesius and Benedikt von Schoeler. General partner Lise Rechsteiner joined for the 2022 fund, after Rocket Internet and co-founding Propagator Ventures. The wider team counts over 15 investment professionals in Munich, and the firm has expanded with a London presence.
Programmes, support and perks
Vsquared runs no accelerator programme. Its support model is an ecosystem play: entrepreneurs and experts around the firm provide interdisciplinary knowledge and access, and its sovereign-technology positioning helps portfolio companies win customers and follow-on capital. It also publishes The Deep Brief, its newsletter on the breakthroughs behind new industries. No public credits programme is advertised.
How to apply for funding from Vsquared Ventures
Vsquared does not publish an open application portal. Founders should approach the firm through its website at vsquared.vc, where its portfolio and investment themes are set out in full. The strongest applications will show a genuine scientific or engineering breakthrough, a team capable of industrial execution, and a market addressing one of society's biggest challenges.
Why it matters for founders
For European deep-tech founders, Vsquared is a pure-play specialist: no consumer deals diluting its attention, €214 million raised for its latest fund, and a portfolio spanning rockets, quantum machines and fusion. If your breakthrough needs patient, technical capital from pre-seed onwards, it is built for you.
