Vorwerk Ventures is the independent venture capital arm grown out of the Vorwerk Group, the German family business behind Thermomix and Kobold, and it has become a serious backer of European consumer-facing technology. Operating independently since 2019, the Berlin-headquartered firm invests its own judgement rather than the parent group's household-appliance strategy, which is exactly why consumer founders should take it seriously as a standalone investor.
Thesis: consumer tech and the technology behind it
Vorwerk Ventures focuses on European startups in consumer tech and enabling technologies, backing companies whose products reach consumers directly or make consumer businesses work better. Its fund disclosures describe early-stage investments in companies with high growth potential, held for the medium term, generally five years.
Sectors and stages
The firm invests principally at seed, Series A and Series B stage, with its most recent fund generations aimed at seed and Series A rounds. Its published fund documents exclude a small set of areas, including weapons, casinos and online betting, and pornography, and they screen investments on environmental and social characteristics. Founders in those excluded areas need not apply; everyone else in consumer tech and enabling technology is in scope, from health apps to energy and food brands.
Fund size and cheque size
Vorwerk Ventures has closed four generations of funds with a total volume of €500 million, according to law firm YPOG, which advised on the structuring of its most recently reported early-stage fund of €150 million. Reported cheque sizes for seed and Series A rounds run from €1 million to €10 million, with reserves of up to €15 million for follow-on rounds. Its own sustainability disclosures also show a fifth fund vehicle, VV Fund V, being structured, but that vehicle's size is not publicly disclosed.
Notable portfolio
The portfolio reads like a tour of European consumer innovation. It includes Thermondo, Everdrop, Planted and Avi Medical, and the firm was one of the first investors in HelloFresh, now listed on the DAX, as well as in delivery service Flaschenpost, which was sold to Oetker for approximately €1 billion. More recent names include Spot my Energy, Alpakas and Medkitdoc.
Partners, programmes and support
Partner Peter Schmetz, who joined the firm in 2018, has overseen investments including Planted Foods, Spot my Energy and pace club. Vorwerk Ventures runs no published accelerator programme and no standalone credits or perks package; its value to founders is sector experience in building consumer brands, plus the operating knowledge of a group that has sold directly to households for generations.
How to apply for funding
Vorwerk Ventures publishes no open application form or cohort deadline, so the route in is direct contact through its website at vorwerkventures.com, ideally with a warm introduction. The strongest pitch will show consumer traction or a credible path to it: repeat purchase, retention, unit economics, and a distribution advantage. A founder who can explain why consumers come back, and what the next round of capital unlocks in distribution, will speak the firm's language far better than one who leads with technology alone.
Why it matters for founders
For a European consumer-tech founder raising seed or Series A, Vorwerk Ventures pairs a €500 million four-fund track record with genuine consumer operating insight, from HelloFresh to Flaschenpost. If your company lives or dies on consumer retention, this is an investor that will test exactly that, and back you if the answer is strong.
