If you are learning how to get funding from Sydecar, first understand that Sydecar does not itself invest in startups. It is the infrastructure that lets a venture investor, syndicate lead or emerging fund manager form and run a special purpose vehicle, known as an SPV, and invest in your company through that vehicle. Your real pitch is still to the lead investor, but Sydecar is often why that lead can move fast and pool smaller backers.
What Sydecar is
Sydecar was founded in 2021 by chief executive Nik Talreja and chief operating officer Shriram Bhashyam, who had previously co-founded EquityZen. Its FAQ describes a platform that makes it simple for venture fund managers to form SPVs to invest in private market assets. In January 2025 it announced an oversubscribed $11 million Series A led by Deciens Capital, with Pipeline Capital Partners and Runa Capital participating. That announcement reported more than 2,500 vehicles supported and more than $1.6 billion invested through the platform. A later release reported $6 billion in assets under administration, with 3,000 deal sponsors and more than 43,000 limited partners.
Thesis, sectors and stages
The thesis is that deal by deal venture investing was slowed by manual legal work, banking, compliance and tax administration, and standardising those steps unlocks more emerging managers and co-investment. Sydecar supports venture capital investments only, and its FAQ states it does not currently support real estate, private credit, cryptocurrency or other asset classes. Vehicles are Delaware domiciled SPVs, including secondary and layered SPVs, covering entity formation, standardised legal agreements, investor onboarding, integrated banking, know your customer checks, fund accounting, K-1 tax forms, regulatory filings and distributions.
Pricing, partners and limits
Published SPV pricing starts at $4,500, calculated as 2 percent of capital raised, between $2,500 and $12,500, plus a $2,000 regulatory fee, with no carry taken by Sydecar. Layered SPVs add $3,000, with a minimum of $7,500 capped at $17,000. The organiser keeps management fees and carry, and carry can be shared with co-investors or advisers. Limits matter: Sydecar offers only self advised vehicles, only accredited investors, only vehicles under Regulation D Rule 506(b), which bans general solicitation, and no cap table management for founders. Most vehicles are capped at 100 or 250 investors.
Why founders should care
When a lead brings a syndicate or co-investment vehicle, Sydecar can turn a slow, lawyer heavy close into a vehicle ready in hours, once investors have signed and funded. That helps keep a round timetable, leaves one SPV line on the cap table, and lets smaller backers join. It does not replace diligence or a lead term sheet, so founders should still check the organiser, the fees charged to limited partners, and the information rights the vehicle will hold.
How to apply for funding
Founders do not apply to Sydecar for a cheque. Pitch a lead investor, syndicate or emerging manager who already uses Sydecar. Managers can start on the official site, try the interactive demo and take the SPV readiness quiz, then create an account to form a vehicle. If you have a committed lead, ask early whether they plan to use an SPV, so the timetable is built into your closing plan.
Why it matters for founders
Think of Sydecar as plumbing for your round, not as the investor. A lead who can run a clean, fast SPV through Sydecar can shorten your close and simplify your cap table, but confirm the structure and fees before you sign.
