Surge is how Peak XV Partners does seed investing — a rapid-scale-up programme that backs early-stage founders in India and Southeast Asia with up to $5 million of seed capital, company-building workshops and a global curriculum delivered by world-class operators. Launched in 2019, Surge has since partnered with more than 400 founders from first cheque through scale.

Investment thesis

Surge rejects the classic accelerator model where support ends at demo day. There are no fixed cohort windows — "when a founder is ready, we move" — and the relationship has no end date: every company gets a dedicated investment partner from day one, access to Peak XV's network and community, and long-term follow-on capital as it grows. Surge follows an open architecture approach, so co-investors are welcome and no exclusivity is required. It does not take board seats at the early stage. The programme looks for founders with deep conviction and unique insight who are building enduring, generational companies — nearly half of the Surge 07 cohort were pre-launch when Surge partnered with them.

Sectors and stage

Surge invests $500,000 to $5 million in seed capital in each company via an equity investment, and the ceiling was raised from $3 million to $5 million in September 2026 as deep-tech founders needed larger early rounds. It is sector-agnostic — past cohorts span AI, robotics, space, consumer, healthcare, fintech and music — though recent cohorts lean heavily into AI and deep tech. The Surge 12 cohort, unveiled in September 2026, backs 18 startups, more than half based in India and most building for global markets from day one. The programme itself runs an 8-week journey of focused sessions with operators, founders and industry leaders, wrapping with a founder immersion in San Francisco.

Notable portfolio

Surge-backed companies include Airalo, the world's first and largest eSIM marketplace; Atlan, the data collaboration platform; Multiplier, the global employment platform; Skillmatics, the children's education brand; Minimalist, the Indian skincare company; LambdaTest, the cloud testing platform; and Horizon Quantum in quantum computing. From Surge 12, names disclosed include Alma (AI-native personal computing infrastructure), August AI (AI clinical intelligence for primary care), ULOOK (RF-sensing satellites), Reinforce Labs (AI evaluation and red-teaming), Ditto, GameStock, Kello and Wingit.

Partners

Surge is led by Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of Peak XV and Surge. Each Surge company is paired with a dedicated investment advisor from the Peak XV team who works with founders on strategy, weekly progress and fundraising. Past founder immersions have featured speakers including Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Kunal Shah, Harshil Mathur and Amrish Rau, while world-class investors such as Doug Leone, Vinod Khosla and Chetan Puttagunta have guided founders on scaling.

How to apply for funding from Surge

Applications for Surge are open year-round and are reviewed on a rolling basis, at any stage — it is never too early, and idea-stage founders are explicitly welcome. Founders can apply through the application form on the official Surge website at surge.peakxv.com, write to the team at [email protected], or reach out to a Surge team member on LinkedIn. The team evaluates founder strength, market opportunity and early signs of customer traction.

Why it matters for founders

If you are an early-stage founder in India or Southeast Asia, Surge offers one of the largest seed cheques in the region — up to $5 million — with year-round applications and a partner who stays with you well beyond the programme.
