Spintop Ventures is a Swedish early-stage venture firm founded in 2009 that backs software-based technology companies from the Nordics and Baltics. It typically enters as the first venture investor, stays active for the long haul, and reserves capital to follow its winners, making it a natural fit for Nordic teams planning to scale beyond their home market.

Investment thesis

Spintop Ventures backs innovative software companies from the Nordics or Baltics that can become sector leaders and help drive a long-term sustainable society. Its approach is deliberately pan-Nordic: about 40% of its investments are in Finland, Norway and Denmark, and about half of its Swedish investments come from outside the Stockholm region. It pairs that footprint with active, long-term engagement and significant follow-on capacity for companies that perform.

Sectors and stages

The firm invests in what it calls the ICT or TIME sector, spanning business and consumer software, niche plays inside established ecosystems and enabling core technology platforms. It typically invests at pre-seed, seed and Series A, ideally once a first product version has launched and won a handful of quality customers, though it will consider earlier entry for a truly disruptive proposition built on a strong technology foundation.

Fund size and cheque size

Spintop Fund IV began actively investing in early 2022, and at its launch the firm said it was trusted to manage a total amount approaching SEK 2 billion across its funds. The size of Spintop Fund IV itself is not publicly disclosed in the sources reviewed. Its typical investment range is €500,000 to €2 million, and its cornerstone investors for the fourth fund included the European Investment Fund and Sweden's Saminvest, alongside Nordic family offices and institutional investors.

Notable portfolio

Spintop Ventures has backed more than 60 companies, with exits and landmark names including Small Giant Games, MariaDB and Donkey Republic, plus Fishbrain and Once Upon. More recent portfolio companies include sustainability platform Worldfavor, consumer-insights platform Cambri, patent-intelligence firm IPRally and adaptive insurance platform Cachet, its first investment in Estonia, whose total funding reached around €11 million after its October 2026 round.

Partners

The team includes partners Sami Niemi, Erik Wenngren and Peter Carlsson, supported by senior advisors and a network of more than 50 successful technology entrepreneurs and executives who have invested in the firm's funds. That network gives founders access to operators who have built Nordic software companies.

Programs, credits and perks

Spintop Ventures runs no named accelerator programme in the sources reviewed, and no standalone credits programme is publicly listed. Its structured support comes through sustainability and governance work: Spintop Fund IV adheres to the EU SFDR Article 8 standard, and portfolio companies transparently report environmental, social and governance metrics. The firm also highlights diversity, reporting that about 30% of its active portfolio companies were led by female chief executives at the fourth fund's launch.

How to apply for funding

There is no public application portal. Spintop Ventures urges founders to reach out early for a web meeting or a coffee, ideally long before they need the money, and to test the fit first by talking to entrepreneurs it has already backed. A good-quality business plan, including a financial model, is required, and the firm says actual customer names and contacts matter more than theoretical market-share projections.

Why it matters for founders

For Nordic software founders, Spintop Ventures funding rewards early, honest traction: a launched product, real customers, and a team willing to be actively partnered for years, not just funded for a round.
