Silversmith Capital Partners is a Boston-based growth equity firm founded in 2015 that partners with founders building enduring technology and healthcare businesses. It is not a seed investor and not a buyout house: it specialises in profitable, founder-led companies at growth stage, and in more than seventy percent of its deployed capital it has been the company's first institutional investor.
Investment thesis
Silversmith's thesis is specialisation plus founder alignment. It invests in only two core verticals, software and information services, and healthcare information technology and services, and it believes that a thesis-driven approach inside those verticals gives it the perspective to help management teams best.
Sectors and stages
The firm invests at growth stage in technology and healthcare companies. Its two verticals are SaaS and information services, and healthcare IT and services, including data and analytics, compliance, financial technology for healthcare, and revenue cycle work.
Fund size and cheque size
Silversmith's scale is public and large. Silversmith Capital Partners Fund V closed in 2025 with $1.7 billion in total commitments, including $1.6 billion from limited partners and $110 million from the Silversmith team, and the close took total capital commitments past $5 billion. Earlier funds were Fund IV at $1.3 billion in 2022, Fund III at $880 million in 2020, Fund II at $670 million in 2018, and Fund I at $460 million in 2015. The firm does not publish a standard cheque range, so its typical cheque size is not publicly disclosed as a single figure.
Notable portfolio
Silversmith's representative investments include ActiveCampaign, Appfire, Apryse, DistroKid, impact.com, Iodine Software, LifeStance Health and Webflow. A recent example is SkillCorner, the artificial-intelligence sports tracking company, which announced a $60 million growth investment from Silversmith.
Partners and team
The firm's founding managing partners are Jeff Crisan, Todd MacLean, Jim Quagliaroli and Lori Whelan. Sri Rao, who joined in 2015, was named managing partner alongside them at the Fund V close. Silversmith has been named to Inc. Magazine's Founder-Friendly Investors list for six consecutive years, a recognition it cites as evidence of how it treats founder-led companies.
Programmes, perks and support
Silversmith runs no accelerator and publishes no credits or perks programme. Its support is strategic and long-term: deep domain expertise in its two verticals, perspective on scaling profitable companies, and a partnership approach through multiple stages of growth.
How to apply for funding
Silversmith publishes no open application form for founders, so there is no portal to submit a pitch through. The realistic routes are a direct approach using the contact details on silversmith.com, or a warm introduction from a portfolio founder, adviser or co-investor. This only makes sense at growth stage: a profitable or near-profitable technology or healthcare company, in one of its two verticals, seeking a first or next institutional partner. Seed-stage founders should not apply here; the firm will simply be the wrong stage.
Why it matters for founders
Silversmith is the right conversation for a founder-led technology or healthcare company that is already growing and profitable and wants a first institutional partner, not a seed cheque. Its $1.7 billion Fund V means it has real capacity at growth stage. Come with revenue, retention and a clear use for growth capital, not just a pitch deck.
