S2G Investments is a Chicago-based, multi-stage investment firm backing companies across food and agriculture, oceans and energy. Formerly known as S2G Ventures, the firm rebranded in January 2025 around a single idea: the most valuable opportunities sit at the seams where sectors meet, for example where food systems overlap with energy, or ocean health overlaps with agriculture. Its stated aim is to back teams whose products beat legacy alternatives on performance while improving outcomes for people and the planet.
Thesis
The firm's thesis is systems-first rather than sector-siloed. S2G argues that food, energy and ocean systems are interconnected and policy-sensitive, so a breakthrough in one system often creates value, or risk, in another. It therefore looks for companies commercialising solutions that improve efficiency, resilience and long-term value across the industries powering the global economy.
Sectors and stages
S2G invests across venture and growth stages, and its current description spans late-stage venture, growth equity, structured finance and infrastructure. Within food and agriculture it covers production, supply chains and consumer brands. Within oceans it covers aquaculture, maritime energy transition and ocean intelligence. Within energy it covers grid modernisation, storage and lower-carbon power for transport and industry.
Fund size and cheque size
At its January 2025 rebrand, S2G reported $2.5 billion in committed capital and more than 100 portfolio companies worldwide. Its $100 million Oceans and Seafood Fund was among the larger vehicles backing technologies to decarbonise shipping and make seafood more sustainable. In May 2026 the firm closed its $1 billion Solutions Fund I for growth-stage companies in food, energy and oceans, and said it had already deployed $300 million of that fund across 10 investments. A single standard cheque size is not publicly disclosed.
Portfolio
The oceans portfolio listed on the firm's own site includes Purus, a maritime energy transition services provider; Sofar Ocean, an ocean intelligence platform; Wildtype, a cultivated seafood company; and XOCEAN, which provides ocean data from uncrewed surface vessels. In energy, LineVision helps utilities move more clean energy through existing transmission lines. In food, WILDE, a protein-snacking brand, raised a $40 million investment from S2G in October 2026 to expand production and brand building.
Partners and programmes
S2G was co-founded by Chuck Templeton and Sanjeev Krishnan, who serve as managing partners. Kate Danaher leads the oceans strategy as a managing director, and Cristina Rohr leads food and agriculture as a managing director. The firm does not run a named accelerator programme for outside applicants; its partnership model instead centres on long-term, systems-focused support, including a strategic partnership with Mercuria on energy modernisation and nature-based solutions.
How to apply for funding from S2G Investments
S2G does not publish an open pitch form for founders. The route the firm itself points to is its own website, s2ginvestments.com, and its LinkedIn presence, which it lists as the places to learn more and connect. Founders should therefore approach with a clear account of which seam their company sits on, food, energy or oceans, plus evidence that the product outperforms the legacy alternative on value, not only on impact.
Why it matters for founders
For founders, S2G fits best once a product is proven and ready to scale across a system, rather than at idea stage. Lead with commercial performance, and show exactly where your company sits between sectors.
