Rebalance Angel Community is one of the few Indian investor groups built around a single mission: put more capital in the hands of women and diverse founders. Set up in 2019 by Aishwarya Malhi and Vikas Kumar, it runs both an early-stage accelerator and an angel community that provides funding to companies at the earliest stages — and unlike most angel networks, it often leads rounds on its own conviction rather than waiting for a lead investor.

Rebalance describes itself as India’s first accelerator programme and angel community dedicated to diversity in founders and funders. Based in Gurugram, it has run 11 cohorts, supporting more than 170 founders across India and cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada and Berlin.

Investment thesis & focus

Rebalance invests in early-stage companies led by female, diverse and non-binary founders, with a strong tilt toward deeptech. The angel community is 60% women investors, with roughly one in four angels in each deal being a woman — a deliberate attempt to change who sits across the table. About 38% of active investments are in deeptech, spanning energy storage, healthcare, AI, climate, fintech and proptech. Co-investors include Blume, 3one4 Capital, Antler, Pi Ventures, Y Combinator and B Capital, and the community keeps a network of more than 180 VC partners. Rebalance also invests outside the accelerator — founders who do not fit the cohort’s criteria can pitch to the angel community directly.

Cheque size & stage

Rebalance invests across early stages, with cheques of up to $200,000 (roughly ₹3.5–4 crore), joining or leading rounds on flexible terms. The portfolio stands at 35 investments (per the firm’s site), and portfolio companies have raised about $100 million in follow-on funding. Fund size is not publicly disclosed — Rebalance operates as an angel community, not a pooled fund.

Notable portfolio

Standout investments include BrainSightAI (AI-driven neuropsychiatric screening), Dreamfly Innovations (graphene batteries for drones and defence, led by Rebalance with CIIE.CO), Pinky Promise (an AI-led women’s health clinic that raised $1 million in a pre-seed round led by Rebalance) and The Sweet Change (whose ₹1.7 crore pre-seed round was led by Rebalance). The portfolio also features Meine Electric (iron-air energy storage), Aegion (advanced materials), GreenAero (green aviation propulsion), Accacia, Pico Xpress and Darwix AI. Around 85% of the portfolio is women-led.

Partners & team

Led by co-founders Aishwarya Malhi and Vikas Kumar, the accelerator draws mentors and speakers from across the ecosystem — including Ashish Taneja (Growx Ventures), Ashish Kumar (Fundamentum VC) and Priyanka Gill (ex-PopXO). Malhi also hosts regular AMA coffee chats for female founders and aspiring women angels, with more than 120 women hosted since 2024.

How to apply for funding

The flagship route is the Rebalance accelerator cohort — applications for Cohort 12 open soon, per the firm’s website, so founders should watch therebalance.com for the call. Startups outside the cohort’s eligibility can still pitch the Rebalance Angel Community directly, since it invests independently of the accelerator.

Why it matters for founders

Rebalance is one of the only Indian networks that leads early rounds on its own thesis for women and diverse founders — with cheques up to $200,000, an accelerator feeding directly into angel capital, and $100 million in follow-on funding raised by its portfolio.
