Offline Ventures is an early stage venture fund and studio based in Mill Valley, California, founded in 2020 by Dave Morin, Brit Morin, James Higa, and Nate Bosshard. Dave Morin previously founded the social network Path and worked at Facebook, Brit Morin founded Brit & Co, Higa spent nearly three decades at Apple and later worked at Index Ventures, and Bosshard co-founded Tonal. The firm launched publicly with a $100 million debut fund, with Apple as an anchor investor. Its current fund size is not publicly disclosed.
Investment thesis
The thesis is humanist technology. Offline Ventures invests at the intersection of fundamental technologies and culture, where online and offline experiences meet, with the stated aim of giving people healthier and happier lives. That starts, in the firm's own words, with the founder: a dysregulated founder cannot build a regulated world, so founder wellbeing sits at the centre of how it works.
Sectors and stages
Offline Ventures invests at pre-seed and seed stage, aiming to be the first lead institutional investor in a company. Reported cheques are typically $1 million to $2 million, with larger sums possible through special purpose vehicles where a deal warrants it. About 80 percent of the debut fund was earmarked for early stage investing and about 20 percent for incubating and building new ideas in house. Sectors include personal health, women's health, and mental health, alongside consumer technology and web3. It is also open to connected hardware, including connected fitness.
Notable portfolio / track record
Early investments named by the firm include Clubhouse, the audio based social network, Bobbie, the infant formula company, Kindbody, the fertility and family building provider, and Arc, the electric boat company. More recently, Offline Ventures co-led the Series A of Cofertility, the human centred fertility ecosystem that lets women freeze their eggs for free when they donate half of the retrieved eggs to a family that cannot otherwise conceive. Cofertility had raised a total of $16 million by the time of that round. On the studio side, one of its first incubation projects was Ancient Ritual, described as a multisensory connected sauna.
How to apply for funding
Founders should know one thing plainly: Offline Ventures does not publish a public pitch form on its homepage, which sets out its philosophy rather than an application route. There is therefore no form to fill in and no published application deadline to meet. The realistic route is a warm introduction through a founder, operator, or investor the partners already know and trust, with a short note explaining the human problem you are solving, why it sits at the online and offline edge, and what you have built. Because the firm positions itself as a first lead institutional investor, approach it when you are ready for that conversation, not as a late addition to a round that is already priced and closing.
Why it matters for founders
Offline Ventures suits a pre-seed or seed founder building health, consumer, or human centred technology who wants a lead investor who thinks hard about founder wellbeing and hardware craft. If you need a public application form, this firm does not offer one, so a warm introduction is the route that works.
