Boutique investment firm Niveshaay led one of September 2026's notable consumer deals — design-led D2C fashion brand Theater's Rs 75 crore Series A at a Rs 410 crore post-money valuation — and the firm's Niveshaay funding track record shows a growing appetite for category-creating Indian consumer brands. Founded by Arvind Kothari, Niveshaay operates SEBI-registered alternative investment funds through Niveshaay Investment Management Pvt. Ltd.

What Niveshaay funding backs

Niveshaay manages two SEBI-registered funds with Rs 1,970.48 crore in combined AUM, per the firm's official AIF page. Its Category III AIF (launched October 2024) runs a concentrated small-cap portfolio of listed and unlisted companies focused on data centres, aerospace and defence, energy storage and electronics/EMS. But for startup founders, the interesting lane is Niveshaay's direct consumer-brand book: alongside Theater, the firm has backed Mokobara and XYXX recently, after earlier positions in Naturis Cosmetics and Innovist.

Its thesis, articulated by Kothari on the Theater round: back category-creating brands that address clear market gaps and have strong consumer pull — with India's mass-premium segment and rising female workforce participation as tailwinds.

The Theater case study

Theater, founded in 2021 by Sarthak Aggarwal, Vikram Jain, Karan Jain and Shruti Aggarwal, sells design-led western fashion accessories — footwear, stockings, perfumes and bags — positioned between imported luxury and mass-market basics. As co-founder Sarthak Aggarwal put it: "We started Theater because we couldn't find beautiful, well-made accessories in India that weren't either a luxury import or a compromise." The brand scaled 8x over two years while staying profitable, and plans to use the Rs 75 crore to expand offline retail across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, with celebrity partnerships and high-impact marketing. The round also saw participation from Physis Capital (new investor) and existing investor Prath Ventures. Notably, the firm's Category III AIF has delivered 34.28 per cent post-tax returns since inception (as of September 15, 2026), versus the Nifty Smallcap 250 benchmark — the same small-cap discipline it now applies to picking consumer winners.

How to apply for funding

Niveshaay publishes its contact route on its official website — niveshaay.com — and founders should approach through the contact channels listed there. Given the firm's consumer-brand book, pitches that lead with design differentiation, repeat purchase behaviour and a credible offline-expansion story will land best.

Why it matters for founders

Niveshaay is one of the few Indian investment firms moving down the market to back design-led consumer brands directly — from luggage to innerwear to fashion accessories. If you're building a mass-premium brand with real consumer pull and a path to national retail, Niveshaay's Rs 75 crore Theater bet is proof the firm writes serious growth cheques outside its public-markets funds.
