KRAFTON India is the India arm of South Korea-headquartered gaming giant KRAFTON Inc., best known for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which has surpassed 260 million downloads in the country. Since 2021 it has grown from a game publisher into one of the most committed foreign investors in India’s gaming and digital entertainment ecosystem, with over $250 million invested in Indian startups across interactive entertainment, gaming, esports and technology.
In August 2023 it announced plans to deploy $150 million over two to three years into Indian gaming and entertainment startups, and in 2026 it pledged a further $250 million over the next three to four years, expanding into artificial intelligence, robotics and deep tech. KRAFTON India is led by CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn.
Investment thesis
KRAFTON India invests in the infrastructure of India’s digital entertainment economy, not just games: esports, game streaming, storytelling, audio content, fintech and content creation. It says it is not a passive investor — it generally prefers at least 10% of a company, a board seat, and an active advisory role.
Its sweet spot is between seed and growth: companies with proven product-market fit and early revenues that need sizeable funding to accelerate. It has also backed funds including Lumikai and 3one4 Capital as a limited partner.
Fund size and cheque size
KRAFTON India’s direct-investment programme publishes no single fund corpus, so that figure is not publicly disclosed. Alongside it sits the KRAFTON–NAVER–Mirae Asset Unicorn Growth Investment Fund, targeting up to ₹6,000 crore, with KRAFTON anchoring it with ₹1,230 crore and the fund expected to start with over ₹3,000 crore. Managed by Mirae Asset Venture India, it targets growth-stage tech across Asia with a clear emphasis on India, in AI, fintech and content.
Notable portfolio
The portfolio includes NODWIN Gaming, streaming platform Loco, storytelling platform Pratilipi, audio platform Kuku FM, fintech firm Cashfree Payments, community platform Shuru and gaming platform JetSynthesys. In March 2025 KRAFTON acquired a controlling stake in Pune studio Nautilus Mobile, makers of Real Cricket, for ₹118 crore. Other bets include Lila Games, FRND, Bobble AI, FanTiger, GGX and One Impression.
Programmes run: KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator
The KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator (KIGI), launched in 2023, offers mentorship over six months to a year and financial assistance of up to $150,000 per studio. The first cohort backed four startups; the second expanded to six, reaching hubs such as Kolkata and Madurai; the third produced the first KIGI-born PC title, Frontier Paladin. Partners including AWS, AccelByte, App Magic and Liftoff’s GameRefinery provide development support, alongside esports tournaments BGIS and BMPS.
Credits and perks
KIGI studios receive mentorship, funding and partner support as described above. Broader cloud or tool credits beyond the partner support named here are not publicly disclosed.
How to apply for funding
Game studios should watch krafton.in for KIGI cohort announcements and apply with a playable build or prototype and a clear audience in mind. Later-stage startups should be ready to show proven product-market fit and early revenue, and explain what a strategic investor with a 260-million-download platform adds beyond capital.
Why it matters for founders
For gaming and entertainment founders, KRAFTON India is the rare investor bringing distribution, esports infrastructure and a publishing platform alongside capital. KIGI is the most direct door for early studios, while its fund with Naver and Mirae Asset extends its reach into AI, fintech and content.
