Jharkhand Angels is an angel network headquartered in Ranchi and founded in 2021, focused on identifying startup opportunities in non-metro India, or Bharat, and incubating, funding and accelerating them. It was set up by Prabhash Nirbhay after seeing how hard it was for startups outside the metros to raise capital, even when their ideas were strong.
Thesis
Jharkhand Angels works under the banner of transforming Bharat, one startup at a time. It backs companies that solve the problems of Bharat, carry a regional focus such as enterprises built around the arts, culture or food of a specific region, and serve underserved communities in India. Its stated purpose is to work with bottom-of-the-pyramid states and move the needle on education, health, nutrition, jobs and market access by 2050.
Sectors & Stages
Jharkhand Angels invests at early stage and is sector-agnostic within its Bharat lens. It has invested in startups from across India, including Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and it also provides accelerator services, mentoring and training in pitching and fundraising.
Fund & Cheque Size
Jharkhand Angels is an angel network, and its total fund size is not publicly disclosed. Its average ticket size is INR 20 lakh to INR 50 lakh, which positions it squarely at the earliest institutional step for founders from smaller towns and cities.
Notable Portfolio
Jharkhand Angels portfolio companies include The Playbook, a social learning startup; ZiffyTech, an online doctor consultation platform also known as ZiffyHealth; and Fydo, a discount-hunting company. Its best-known co-investment is the seed round of about INR 2 crore in ZiffyHealth, led by KareKeBa Ventures and joined by Digital Futurists Angels Network, which aimed to extend telemedicine into Bharat's hinterlands.
Partners & Programs
Jharkhand Angels primarily helps connect startups to investors, and mentors them to become proficient in pitching and fundraising, alongside business mentoring and training services that help founders troubleshoot problems, learn from other journeys and find resources. Its co-investment partners include Digital Futurists Angels Network and KareKeBa Ventures, and its founder's own startup experience running Flipcarbon out of Bengaluru shapes its hands-on approach. No credits or perks programme has been publicly published.
How to apply for funding
Jharkhand Angels does not publish a standard online application form, so founders usually reach it through its investor community, ecosystem partners and public profiles. A strong approach shows a clear Bharat problem, a regional or underserved-community focus, and readiness for pitch coaching and fundraising mentoring, which are core parts of what the network offers.
Why it matters for founders
Jharkhand Angels fills a gap most Indian investors ignore: early capital and pitch-ready mentoring for founders building outside the metros, with tickets of INR 20 lakh to INR 50 lakh and a network that understands tier-II and tier-III realities first-hand.
