Hero Enterprise is the family office and investment group of Sunil Kant Munjal, chairman of the enterprise that emerged from the Hero Group's second family restructuring. After stepping back from Hero MotoCorp in 2016, Munjal built Hero Enterprise into a diversified group spanning insurance, real estate, steel and education — and, through its investment office and Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures arm, into an active backer of Indian startups.

Thesis: back founders, not just business models

Munjal says the group invests in founders rather than just business models, offering active mentorship alongside capital. The investment office backs ventures across financial services, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, consumer technology and sustainability, Through the family office, it also supports startups in digital learning, community transportation, healthcare, women's empowerment and children's education.

Its operating businesses give the portfolio a practical edge: Hero Insurance Broking distributes more than 10 million policies a year, while Hero Realty builds sustainable, middle-income housing in North India. An incubator linked to its educational institution has produced at least 60 startups, including five arts and culture ventures it backed directly.

Fund size and cheque size

Hero Enterprise does not publish a fund size for its investment office or for Partner Ventures, so its total startup corpus is not publicly disclosed. The public record shows a willingness to lead meaningful growth rounds: it led CapGrid's Rs 46.28 crore pre-Series B round, contributing Rs 38.30 crore itself, and it led Vaaree's Rs 65 crore Series A. A seed bet on BrainSightAI shows it is not confined to late rounds either.

Notable portfolio

The recent portfolio is strikingly varied. CapGrid, a Bengaluru B2B manufacturing platform, raised its pre-Series B at a reported valuation of around Rs 430 crore, with Nexus, Anicut and Axilor alongside Hero Enterprise. Vaaree, a home decor marketplace, raised Rs 65 crore in a Series A led by Hero Enterprise and Cap Alpha Ventures. Solinas Integrity, an IIT Madras-incubated climate robotics company, raised a $5.5 million Series A1 led by Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures and co-led by Mela Ventures. Other recorded bets include Saarathi Finance (Series A, May 2025), Lifelong Online, BrainSightAI, Karkinos Healthcare and AgroStar.

Partners and programmes

The family office's startup work is closely associated with Shefali Munjal, who built Hero Insurance Broking from 5,000 policies a month into a business selling more than 10 million a year. The group runs no published accelerator; its programmes are its incubator links, mentorship, and the operating expertise of its insurance, real estate and steel businesses. It offers no published credits or perks programme.

How to apply for funding from Hero Enterprise

Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures publishes no open application portal, so there is no form to fill in. Its recent rounds have been led or joined through its investment office, typically alongside co-investors such as Nexus, Anicut and Axilor. The practical route is a warm introduction through those co-investor networks, the group's incubator connections, or advisers who know the investment office — pitching founder quality, governance and execution, the themes Munjal himself emphasises.

Why it matters for founders

For Indian founders in manufacturing, consumer, fintech, health or climate tech, Hero Enterprise offers a patient family-office backer that can actually lead a round — but you will need an introduction, not an application form, and a story built on execution and governance rather than hype.
