Beyond Ventures is a Hong Kong-based venture capital firm co-founded by Lap Man and Marvin Hung in 2017 with a mission its founders describe as revitalising Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem. Its slogan, “From Hong Kong, For Hong Kong”, captures the original idea: a small local market makes funding hard to find, so a home-grown fund should bring local venture capitalists, conglomerates and entrepreneurs together behind Hong Kong-related startups, while helping those companies reach mainland China and beyond.

Beyond Ventures invests in early-stage technology and science-led companies, with portfolio strengths in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors, consumption, corporate services and business-to-business software. It describes its approach as uniting venture capital expertise with local conglomerates and visionary entrepreneurs, providing startups with capital and guidance rather than capital alone. That conglomerate backing can open doors to customers, distribution and follow-on capital that a standalone early-stage fund cannot easily replicate.

On fund size, caution is needed. The firm's current total fund size is not publicly disclosed in verified sources. What is on the record is historical: as of March 2021, DealStreetAsia reported a portfolio of 28 startups with aggregate investment of approximately $60 million, and reported that the firm was planning to raise $100 million for a second fund that year. Those figures describe the position in 2021, not a confirmed current fund size, and founders should not treat the $100 million target as a closed fund.

The portfolio is the firm's strongest calling card. It includes SenseTime, the AI company; SmartSens, the chip designer; YOHO, the Hong Kong e-commerce company; and HKTaxi, which was acquired by Uber in 2021. Other names include Prenetics, first backed in 2017; Respond.io, the messaging customer-relationship platform founded in Hong Kong; Zilliz, the vector-database company; and biotech names G-NiiB, Hongene and MingMed. As of July 2026, the firm reported four IPOs, three trade sales and three filings under Chapters 18A or 18C of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange rules.

Key partners underline the Hong Kong establishment behind the fund. Its backers have included eGarden, the Hong Kong technology, media and telecoms investor; Hony Capital and GAW Capital; and Hong Kong conglomerates including Hop Hing Group, Far East Consortium, Chinney Alliance Group and Chinachem Group, alongside the endowment fund of the University of Hong Kong. In December 2025, the Hong Kong Investment Corporation appointed it as an asset manager for the 2025 capital batch under the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme. It has also sponsored the Start-up Express incubation programme. No published credits or perks programme for portfolio founders was found.

How to apply for funding

Beyond Ventures does not publish a public pitch form or a standardised application window, so founders should approach the firm through the contact route on its official website, beyondventures.hk, with a concise introduction, a deck and a clear Hong Kong or Greater Bay Area angle. A warm introduction through its conglomerate or university network will carry more weight than a cold note.

Why it matters for founders

Beyond Ventures is most relevant to a Hong Kong or Greater Bay Area founder in AI, biotech or deep technology who values local conglomerate networks and a path into mainland China. Its portfolio exits show it can back companies to listing or acquisition, but founders should ask directly about current fund availability and cheque size, since no current fund total is publicly confirmed.
