Astarc Ventures is a Mumbai-based early-stage investor that backs very select technology companies. Established in 2015 as a division of the Astarc Group Family Office, it describes itself as operator-led: it uses operating experience across industries to help early-stage companies grow.

Thesis

Astarc invests in two buckets: strategic sectors aligned with the Astarc Group's own businesses, and sector-agnostic themes where large businesses can be built over the next decade from new technology and changing consumer preferences. In both, the test is a technology-led idea, a scalable model, and a team that can execute without being micromanaged.

Sectors, stages and geography

Its strategic themes are printing technology, health technology and medical products, auto technology, agri technology, and real estate and construction technology. Its sector-agnostic themes include artificial intelligence and machine learning, the Internet of Things, fintech, B2B software-as-a-service, consumer brands, marketplaces and platforms, and climate change and environmental protection.

Astarc prefers to come in as early as possible and can invest from pre-Series A to pre-IPO. Set up in Mumbai, India, it works globally and focuses mainly on companies based in India, Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Fund size and cheque size

Astarc's current total fund size is not publicly disclosed on its website. For context, its maiden seed fund was reported at launch with a corpus of US $2 million, aiming to reach US $10 million over a few years. That figure is historic, not today's assets under management.

Its published ticket is US $50,000 to US $1 million per company, with follow-on investment in later rounds. Astarc calls its capital patient: it aims to exit in five to seven years, but says it is not obliged to exit prematurely.

Notable portfolio

Astarc's reported portfolio includes bike-taxi platform Rapido, edge-AI chip company Hailo, short-video platform Chingari, and AI-powered automotive imaging company Spyne, plus Rooter, Purple Style Labs, DataLoop and Lucidity. Koovers, an automotive aftermarket company, was acquired by Schaeffler in August 2023, according to Tracxn.

Partners, programmes and perks

Astarc says the fund is managed by an independent team, supported by an advisory team and industry stakeholders across global technology hubs. At launch, Salil Musale was named Executive Director of Astarc Ventures. The firm can lead investments and co-invest in syndicate rounds, and partners with multiple funds worldwide as a limited partner.

No accelerator programme or credits and perks package is published on Astarc's website. Its stated support is operating experience, active engagement where needed, and access to its advisory and industry network.

How to apply for funding

Approach Astarc through its official website with a concise pitch answering its own tests: the problem, why the technology is defensible, and what proof already exists. It prefers companies that have completed angel funding, built a core solution, won lead customers, and shown recurring revenue. Lead with validated demand, not only a product demo, and be ready to discuss follow-on needs.

Why it matters for founders

Astarc suits founders who want operator help and patient capital, not a fast flip. Its US $50,000 to US $1 million ticket and pre-Series A to pre-IPO range make it a first institutional conversation for India-linked teams in health, auto, agri, construction technology, AI, fintech or B2B software.
