Ascolta Ventures, LLC is a very-early-stage venture firm whose own description is refreshingly human: “Ascolta focuses solely on very early stage investments in companies with great people who want investors that will listen and provide guidance based on real world experience.” The name fits — ascolta is Italian for “listen.” CB Insights lists its headquarters at 101 California Street, San Francisco. It invests, in its own words, in “people creating transformative technology companies and defining new marketplaces.”

Thesis and specialty

Ascolta’s specialty is going in extremely early on cutting-edge technology and new marketplaces, then staying useful rather than intrusive. Its featured investments on its official site are AI companies — Stability AI, the open-AI company behind Stable Diffusion, and webAI, which is building a unified execution layer for AI models across cloud and local devices. Recent investments listed by the firm include AI names such as Via, Aida Technology, AlphaXiv and Yupp AI, alongside Rover in blockchain data.

Where it has funded

The firm’s Investments page lists dozens of companies, overwhelmingly US technology startups. Beyond AI, the portfolio includes robotics company Nuro, AI chip company Groq, payments platform Stripe, micromobility company Lime, creator platform Gumroad, EV-financing company Tenet and document-intelligence company Ripcord. It is a broad, operator-style early portfolio rather than a single-sector bet.

Cheque size and deal pace

The firm does not publish a standard cheque size, and it does not publish an annual deal count, so no defensible deals-per-year average can be stated. What can be verified is the shape of the activity: its official Investments page lists dozens of portfolio companies accumulated over many years of very-early-stage investing, with new AI investments still being added in 2025 and 2026.

Exits

Ascolta’s own Investments page documents a strong exit record, labelling each outcome directly: Cloudera — IPO April 2017; Snapchat (Snap) — IPO March 2017; Dollar Shave Club — acquired by Unilever, July 2016; Codecademy — acquired by Skillsoft; Locu — acquired by GoDaddy, August 2013; SayNow — acquired by Google; Singularity Networks — acquired by Cisco; and Hearsay — acquired by Yext. Few early-stage firms can point to two IPOs and a Unilever acquisition on their own portfolio page.

How to apply for funding

Ascolta runs no open application portal and no accelerator programme. Contact is via its official site, ascoltavc.com, and — as with most very-early-stage firms — a warm introduction via a portfolio founder or co-investor is the strongest route in. Pitch the people-and-marketplace story the firm says it backs: great people, transformative technology, a new marketplace being defined.

Why it matters for founders

Ascolta is proof that a small, listening-first early investor can be in Snapchat, Cloudera and Stability AI before the crowd. If you are building cutting-edge technology at the very earliest stage and want guidance from real operating experience rather than a platform bureaucracy, Ascolta belongs on your target list.
