Ambition Capital is a new Bengaluru-based early-stage venture firm launched by former Peak XV Partners managing directors Shailesh Lakhani and Harshjit Sethi, together with former Sequoia Capital vice president Mayank Porwal. It is part of a wave of senior Indian investors leaving large platforms to build independent firms, and its ambition is explicit in its name: to back the next generation of Indian technology companies from seed onwards.

Thesis: sovereignty, AI and new consumer preferences

Ambition Capital will back startups across consumer technology, artificial intelligence, deep tech and fintech, areas familiar to its founders. Its broad themes include sovereignty, backing startups building India-specific solutions, artificial intelligence, and evolving consumer preferences. That combination points to companies that solve Indian problems first, using AI and new distribution, rather than copying global models wholesale.

Sectors, stages and fund size

The debut fund is targeting a corpus of $250 million, around ₹2,310 crore, and was in early discussions with potential limited partners when first reported in March 2026. It will focus on seed and Series A investments and is expected to make around 25 to 30 investments from the fund. No fund-level cheque size is publicly disclosed, so founders should not assume a standard first cheque, and should ask about cheque range and reserve policy once the fund closes.

Partners and portfolio

Shailesh Lakhani spent 17 years at Sequoia Capital and Peak XV Partners, with a portfolio including Minimalist, acquired by Hindustan Unilever, Ixigo, Truecaller, Zetwerk, OneCard, Polygon and CoinSwitch. Harshjit Sethi led artificial intelligence investments at Peak XV Partners and served on boards including Sarvam AI, having earlier invested in fintech and software companies such as Darwinbox, Turtlemint and BharatPe. Mayank Porwal left Sequoia Capital in 2023 after six years as vice president. Those are prior-firm investments, not Ambition Capital portfolio companies, which are not yet publicly disclosed.

Programs, credits and perks

No named accelerator program, credits package or perks program is publicly disclosed for Ambition Capital. As a first-time fund still raising when reported, its structured support is not yet public. Founders should therefore judge it on partner experience and on the operating help the team commits to in writing, rather than on a published program, and should ask how a 25 to 30 company portfolio will be supported across seed and Series A.

How to apply for funding

How to apply for Ambition Capital funding: no public application portal or pitch route was published in the sources read, and the fund was still in discussions with limited partners when reported. Seed and Series A founders should therefore approach through a warm introduction from a founder, operator or investor in the Peak XV and Sequoia Capital alumni network, once the fund is closed and investing. Lead with an India-specific insight: what local problem, sovereignty angle or consumer shift makes this company hard to copy, and why seed or Series A is the right moment for Ambition Capital to lead or join.

Why it matters for founders

For Indian seed and Series A founders in AI, fintech, deep tech and consumer technology, Ambition Capital offers a $250 million fund led by investors with a proven record at Peak XV Partners. The trade-off is timing: it is a new fund, so founders should confirm it is closed and deploying before treating it as an active lead, and should diligence its support model as carefully as its cheque.
