Activate Venture Partners is an India-focused, AI-only venture firm launched in December 2025 by Aakrit Vaish, co-founder of Haptik, and Pratyush Choudhury, a former principal at Together Fund. It was built for a very specific moment: technical founders who want to start an AI company in India, often before the company formally exists.

Thesis: back technical crack teams from day zero

Activate's thesis rests on four principles stated at launch: velocity, depth, taste and influence. Velocity means shipping and iterating far faster than in earlier startup cycles. Depth means genuine domain and technical mastery. Taste means high-judgement product decisions. Influence means the ability to shape a category, not merely enter one. The firm describes itself as a platform for India's AI moment, bringing together founders, researchers, operators and policy experience rather than acting only as a cheque writer.

Sectors and stages

Activate invests at inception, pre-seed and seed, and says it will engage with founders even before company formation. Its five-layer map of India's AI opportunity covers AI applications, infrastructure tooling, foundation models, accelerated compute, and physical infrastructure such as data centres and cooling. In practice it groups the opportunity into three areas: domestic AI capabilities, including models, science, manufacturing and defence uses; AI services, which rebuild how IT and business processes are delivered; and consumer AI across commerce, financial services, education, healthcare, content and gaming.

Fund size and cheque size

Activate was announced with a $75 million fund, and later reported a maiden platform close of $105 million, comprising an $85 million early-stage fund and $20 million in dedicated growth vehicles. Its early-stage cheques run from $500,000 to $3 million, and it targets a portfolio of 25 to 30 startups.

Notable portfolio and partners

Activate reported 10 investments after its first close, including seven early-stage bets that remained in stealth and three growth investments in Sarvam AI, ElevenLabs and Wispr Flow. Before the fund, Vaish and Choudhury invested as angels in companies including Composio, Sri Mandir, Spry, ZuAI, Emergent, Park+, Rapidclaims and Spendflo. Its limited partners include Vinod Khosla, Aravind Srinivas of Perplexity and Shailendra Singh of Peak XV.

Programs run and credits or perks

Activate does not run a public accelerator cohort in the sources reviewed. Its main structured benefit is a multi-year collaboration with NVIDIA: portfolio startups are onboarded to the NVIDIA Inception programme, gaining developer tools, technical training, compute resources and go-to-market support, plus access to NVIDIA's Nemotron family of open models and early access to selected product releases.

How to apply for funding from Activate Venture Partners

Activate's stated route is direct engagement with the team, often at idea stage and before incorporation. No standard public application portal was stated in the sources reviewed for this profile, so founders should approach through a warm introduction or a direct, well-argued note that states the technical wedge, the first product truth, and why the team can ship faster than rivals.

Why it matters for founders

For an AI founder in India, Activate is one of the few funds built specifically for the pre-company stage, with cheques up to $3 million and a network spanning research, big-tech AI teams and Indian founders. Its value is clearest for teams with a sharp technical edge and a global ambition from day one.
