Investcorp India is the India franchise of Investcorp, the Bahrain-based global alternative asset manager founded in 1982 that manages around $62–64 billion across private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure, with 14 offices worldwide. Investcorp formally entered India in 2019 by acquiring IDFC Alternatives' private equity and real estate investment businesses, and runs a Mumbai-based team of seasoned investors.

The India thesis is mid-market growth investing: significant minority positions — typically 20–40% — in category-defining, founder-led businesses across consumer tech, e-commerce and its enablers, consumer products, retail, healthcare, pharma, technology and financial services. The firm writes equity cheques of $25–50 million plus larger co-investments of $40–50 million, favours first-generation entrepreneurs with strong unit economics and a path to profitability, and seeks exits within 4–6 years via IPOs, secondaries or strategic sales. A "deep engagement model" helps portfolio companies institutionalise — strategy, systems, CXO hiring and overseas expansion.

Its maiden India private equity fund closed in July 2019 at Rs 1,000 crore (~$142 million), backed by Indian banks, insurers, family offices and international fund-of-funds, deploying early into InCred, ASG Eye Hospitals, Zolo and Citykart. In September 2026 the firm said it was investing through a $500 million India-focused fund — midway deployed — and targets up to three deals a year.

Notable investments include XpressBees, Wakefit, FreshToHome, Bewakoof, NephroPlus, Wingreens, V-Ensure Pharma, Intergrow Brands, Unilog, Global Dental Services, Canpack and the $125 million buyout of NSEIT. The exit track record is strong: ASG Eye Hospitals exited in September 2022 to General Atlantic and Kedaara Capital (ASG's units grew 2.5x under Investcorp's tenure); Safari Industries exited in September 2023 returning INR 2.85 billion; and Citykart — its very first India deal in 2019 — exited fully in May 2025 to TPG NewQuest and A91 Partners, the fifth full exit from its India Consumer Growth Portfolio, with Citykart's store base tripling from 37 to 137 stores.

Key people: Gaurav Sharma (Partner & Head of India Investments), alongside partners Varun Laul and Anshuman Goenka; the India AIF platform (Investcorp India Asset Managers) manages the Investcorp Private Equity Fund II, Investcorp Growth Equity Fund and Investcorp Growth Opportunity Fund, among others.

Why it matters for founders

If you run a scaled, profitable mid-market business — especially in consumption, healthcare or financial services — and want a global PE partner that leads with minority stakes rather than control, Investcorp India's $500 million fund and hands-on playbook make it a high-conviction target.
