The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) on Tuesday urged startups, industry, academia and research organisations to adopt semiconductor products developed by the government-run Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali, for space and launch vehicle applications. IN-SPACe, which supervises space activities by non-governmental entities and private startups, made the call during a webinar where SCL officials showcased its capabilities across semiconductor design, fabrication, testing, packaging, quality assurance, and failure analysis.

SCL has developed a portfolio of sensors, detectors, amplifiers, analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters, processors, memories, application-specific integrated circuits, and communication interfaces for strategic and space applications. The push aligns with the government's broader drive for self-reliance in critical technology — from the India Semiconductor Mission to IN-SPACe's own ₹500-crore Technology Adoption Fund for space startups.

Why it matters for founders

For spacetech and defence startups, the signal is clear: using indigenous chips is becoming a competitive advantage in winning government and strategic contracts. IN-SPACe's endorsement of SCL's portfolio gives early-stage teams a ready, flight-heritage component base — evaluate SCL parts for your next design cycle before defaulting to imports.
