Karnataka's Innoverse Foundation has announced the first cohort of its DeepTech Enabler programme — 7 startups chosen to go through an intensive nine-month journey. The cohort was unveiled on 3 October 2026, making Karnataka the latest state to run a serious structured programme for deep-tech founders.
The named startups span an eclectic mix of hard tech: AquaAirX (autonomous amphibious and underwater systems), Fibroheal Woundcare (silk-based wound care) and Hyspace Technologies (space data technology), alongside four other cohort companies. Underwater drones, silk-derived medical products and space data in a single cohort shows how broad the deep-tech tent has become.
The programme's targets are refreshingly concrete. Over nine months, it aims to double the cohort's combined revenue from ₹35 crore to ₹70 crore and unlock ₹300+ crore in growth capital for the cohort companies. Revenue-doubling as a stated KPI keeps the programme honest — this is about commercial traction, not demo days.
The growth-capital target is the more interesting number. Deep-tech startups in India have historically struggled at the Series A/B bridge, where ticket sizes jump but domestic deep-tech funds are thin. A state-backed programme explicitly oriented around unlocking follow-on capital is addressing the ecosystem's real bottleneck.
For founders outside the cohort, the announcement is a signal of intent from the Karnataka ecosystem. State innovation programmes increasingly function as scouting pipelines for institutional investors — a strong nine-month run with verified revenue growth is exactly the kind of evidence that de-risks deep-tech bets for follow-on funds.
Why it matters for founders
If you are a deep-tech founder, state-backed programmes like Innoverse's are worth tracking — they combine commercial pressure with capital introductions, which is exactly what hard-tech companies need at the bridge stage. Watch this cohort's revenue numbers over the next nine months: if ₹35 crore becomes ₹70 crore, expect copycat programmes in other states — and plan to be in the room when they launch.
