Internet major Info Edge has announced a leadership transition and a fresh investment, in a busy board meeting reported on 28 October 2026. Managing director and CEO Hitesh Oberoi will step down on 2 December, after nearly 27 years with the company, and co-founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani will take over as executive vice chairman, managing director and group CEO from 3 December, subject to shareholder approval.
Oberoi will stay on the board as a non-executive director and plans to spend more time on education, investing and philanthropy. Info Edge also reported an 87% rise in Q2 profit to ₹650 crore.
Separately, the board authorised an investment of approximately ₹150 crore in Redstart Labs (India) Limited, its wholly-owned subsidiary, to support that unit's growth initiatives and operational capabilities. The board also resolved to divest its entire 14.18% stake in Medcords Healthcare Solutions and its 31.64% shareholding in Unnati Online, both investments previously impaired to nil in its consolidated statements.
The combination is instructive: a profitable core funding a subsidiary bet, while impaired portfolio positions are cleaned up rather than carried. For founders, it is a reminder that portfolio hygiene — exiting positions that no longer work — is as much a part of capital allocation as new investment.
Leadership transitions at founder-led companies are watched closely by investors, and Info Edge has handled this one as a planned handover to a co-founder rather than an abrupt exit, which is the steadier path for a company of its scale.
Why it matters for founders
Plan the succession before you need it. A founder handover to a trusted co-founder, announced with dates and a continuing board role, protects the company far better than a surprise departure — and the same discipline applies to pruning investments that no longer earn their place.
