Here's a twist in startup funding in India this week: Info Edge (India) Ltd's wholly-owned subsidiary, Startup Investments (Holding) Ltd. (SIHL), has agreed to invest approximately ₹5 crore in Bizcrum Infotech Private Limited (Bijnis) — the B2B marketplace it fully wrote off in 2023.

Deal details

SIHL's board approved the investment on October 23, 2026. The primary investment is a subscription to Series B2 Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares at ₹2,111.19 per share — 23,683 CCPS in all — and it is part of a larger financing round involving existing and new investors. After the primary subscription, SIHL's aggregate holding in Bijnis is expected to rise to 20.12% on a fully diluted basis. SIHL may also pursue a secondary acquisition of Bijnis shares, and the primary investment is expected to conclude within two months.

The backstory: written off in 2023

Bijnis runs a B2B marketplace and quick-commerce platform for footwear, apparel and allied fashion categories. It last raised $30 million in September 2021 in a Series B backed by Matrix Partners, Sequoia Capital India and Westbridge Capital, with total funding of about $43.5 million. In May 2023, Info Edge wrote off its entire investment, citing continuing cash burn and uncertainty around future capital raises — though it stressed the write-down was an accounting decision, not a verdict on the business.

Why it matters

The fresh infusion, with Bijnis reporting FY26 turnover of $15.5 million, signals renewed conviction in a previously impaired bet. For founders, it is a reminder that a write-off is not always the end of the road — if the operating metrics recover, investors can and do come back.

Why it matters for founders

Don't treat a down-round or investor write-off as a death sentence. Bijnis kept operating, and Info Edge is now topping up its stake to 20.12%. Focus on rebuilding unit economics and revenue — the capital markets have a long memory for comebacks too.
